‘The best curry sauce that’s ever graced my lips’: Famous food reviewer raves about Cork’s KC’s

A world famous reviewer of fast food came to Cork in a very fast car – a Lamborghini no less – and left with happy memories to post rave reviews of the premises he visited – a number of stalls in the Marina Market as well as the legendary KC & Son & Sons takeaway in Douglas – and a pledge to return.

Matt Binge’s Food Review Club profile on TikTok has more than 750,000 followers and his videos from burger and pizza joints as well as traditional fish and chip shops and a wide variety of other fast food stalls selling delicious speedily dispatched delicacies from all over the world regularly attract millions of views.

Over the weekend, a number of videos from his recent visit to the Marina Market as well as KC’s in Douglas were published on his TikTok channel, generating hundreds of comments and thousands of shares.

Speaking to The Echo, Matt, who’s originally from Cambridge, told us that he absolutely loved Cork.

Matt Binge of the Food Review Club paid a visit to Cork’s Marina Market as well as the legendary KC’s Takeaway in Douglas and was very impressed with the fare available.

“Though it was a speedy visit, we aim to come back very, very soon,” said Matt.

Among the comments on his videos from his Cork visit were hundreds of suggestions – from teaming up with one of the city’s own food reviewers, Richie’s Food and Nature, or taking a trip to the northside for a burger at Dacent Munch or out to Kinsale for the acclaimed fish and chips from Catch of the Day.

He was travelling in a Lamborghini, courtesy of a company which runs raffles for top end cars or campers.

But during his visit to Cork, his focus was on the food.

“The best curry sauce that’s ever graced my lips,” was the big man’s verdict on the curry chips at KC’s.

He also tried ‘The Mexican’ and ‘The King Creole’ from the fast food outlet which he was also delighted with.

Back to the Marina Market and he was hugely impressed with the location on the banks of the river.

There he visited Nua Asador where he sampled the steak and chimichurri and was so impressed with that he awarded it one of his highest ever scores, 9.6. In his comments he spoke about the “passion” with which the food was cooked.

He described the fare at Poulet Vous as “tasty AF” and the kind of food outlet that every town needed, while he also vowed to get back to Oakfire Pizza to give their Cork themed dishes another try.

He told The Echo that he tries to balance his visits to fast food outlets with days of clean eating as he received a bit of a land two years ago after doing a cholesterol test and getting an unwanted high number himself.

“Although I am promoting good fast food, I am also promoting that it’s ok to have this once or twice a week as part of a balanced lifestyle – there’s nothing wrong with going for a steak dinner with your family or having a take-away on a Friday after a very long week at work, but you must look after your body as well so I’m trying to do a bit of both now, trying to be responsible for a change,” said Matt.

His parting words were that he would be back to Cork “very, very soon” as he was impressed with the city’s foodie culture.
