The Essex beach people travel for miles to visit named among people’s favourite
Essex is lucky to have a coastline of beautiful beaches to enjoy throughout the year. Many people travel for miles to visit the seaside – and Essex beaches are among their favourites.
Our neighbours at CambridgeshireLive recently asked readers to vote for their favourite beaches for a day trip. One Essex beach came out as a place people will happily travel to for a day at the seaside.
That beach was Walton-on-the-Naze – and for good reason. With beautiful stretches of golden sand, a pier with fairground rides, and the headlands of The Naze to explore, it has a lot going for it.

The beach is also renowned for being a great spot for crabbing, which is great fun for kids and adults alike. If you don’t already have it, you can pick up crabbing gear from a local shop.
There are beautiful beach huts at Frinton-on-Sea, as well as Walton Pier. The pier was recently renovated and has plenty to offer in case the weather lets you down, including funfair rides, 10-pin bowling, escape rooms, and climbing walls. The Walton and Frinton lifeboat is also moored at the pier, where it has been since 1900.
Walton-on-the-Naze is also home to Naze Tower, a dramatic landmark which has served as a navigation landmark. It is now an art gallery with work by local artists – and, most importantly, there is also a tea room for refreshments and lunches.
There are plenty of toilets along the beach, so you won’t be stranded if you need the loo. It can be tricky to park in busy periods, but that’s true of most attractive places to visit.
With everything it has to offer, you can see why Walton-on-the-Naze is so popular. No wonder people are willing to travel miles to visit.
