The Essex beach people travel for miles to visit named among people’s favourite

Essex is lucky to have a coastline of beautiful beaches to enjoy throughout the year. Many people travel for miles to visit the seaside – and Essex beaches are among their favourites.

Our neighbours at CambridgeshireLive recently asked readers to vote for their favourite beaches for a day trip. One Essex beach came out as a place people will happily travel to for a day at the seaside.




That beach was Walton-on-the-Naze – and for good reason. With beautiful stretches of golden sand, a pier with fairground rides, and the headlands of The Naze to explore, it has a lot going for it.

The beach is also renowned for being a great spot for crabbing, which is great fun for kids and adults alike. If you don’t already have it, you can pick up crabbing gear from a local shop.

There are beautiful beach huts at Frinton-on-Sea, as well as Walton Pier. The pier was recently renovated and has plenty to offer in case the weather lets you down, including funfair rides, 10-pin bowling, escape rooms, and climbing walls. The Walton and Frinton lifeboat is also moored at the pier, where it has been since 1900.

Walton-on-the-Naze is also home to Naze Tower, a dramatic landmark which has served as a navigation landmark. It is now an art gallery with work by local artists – and, most importantly, there is also a tea room for refreshments and lunches.
