‘The excitement took over’: Cork’s newest Lotto millionaire comes forward

Cork’s newest lottery millionaire has come forward, and arrangements are being made to get them to Lotto HQ, the National Lottery has said.

Someone from the Rebel County won €1m in last Saturday’s Lotto Plus raffle, and they are expected to collect their life-changing win in the coming days.

The Cork player purchased their winning ticket at Dunnes Stores in Charleville to become the 19th National Lottery millionaire of 2024.

Store manager Bobby Stakelum said he was thrilled to get the call from the National Lottery confirming the good news.

“As soon as we got word that we sold the winning ticket, the excitement took over the entire team.

“All of the staff were over the moon and eager to encourage our customers to check their tickets as soon as possible,” he said.

“It’s not every day that someone becomes a millionaire and with this being the biggest ticket that we’ve ever sold, it feels even more special.

“We have lots of local customers here so it’s great to think that it could be someone in the community enjoying this huge windfall. Whoever the winner is, we wish them all the very best with their win.” The National Lottery confirmed that the newest Lotto millionaire has made contact and arrangements are being made for the Cork winner to visit Lotto HQ to collect their prize.

Nearly 30 cent in every €1 spent on National Lottery games goes back to good causes in the areas of sport, youth, health, welfare, education, arts, heritage and the Irish Language.

In total, more than €6 billion has been raised for good causes since the National Lottery was established 36 years ago.

In 2022 alone, €259.5 million was raised for local causes in communities across Ireland.
