The most scenic train journey in Ireland with pub in station, beaches & dolphins

WE are well into summer with the weeks flying – what better way to make summer memories with a day trip to remember.

Jump aboard Ireland’s most scenic train journey, Howth to Greystones, taking in the most beautiful coastal views in just under 90 minutes.

There’s plenty of scenic stops along the route including Clontarf, Sandymount, Dun Laoghaire and Dalkey.

Whichever your starting point there’s plenty for all the family at each destination.

Arriving into Howth Station, you won’t have far to go once you step foot off the train.

The Bloody Stream, known as the ‘pub with a train station’, is loved for its great pints, delicious food and busy atmosphere.

The iconic pub was named after the second Norman invasion in 1177 – when blood from the battle made its way into the local stream.

Tuck into their famous Wrights Tradition Fish & Chips served with mushy peas, homemade tartar sauce and lemon.

Next discover the charming village of Howth with its wildflower-covered sea cliffs.

Soak up the rays at one of the many sun spots including Red Rock Beach, Claremont Beach or Balscadden Bay Beach.

It’s the perfect location to go walking and take in the beauty of the area.

Follow the Dublin Coastal Trail or discover the breathtaking views on the Cliff Path Loop.

There’s plenty of day tours to explore including Howth Cliff Cruises, Howth Tour on E-Bikes and the Ancient Village Adventure tour.

Hop aboard a boat tour to Ireland’s Eye – a rocky island with history dating back to 700 AD.

You may be lucky enough to spot some wildlife including puffins, fulmars, razorbills, seals and dolphins.

For those arriving into the seaside town of Greystones will have lots to do with all the family.

Greystones has established itself as a celebrity hot spot in recent years with a host of celebs flocking to its popular beach.

Catch some sun on the half a mile long sandy beach which is lifeguarded during bathing seasons.

Its Blue Flag beach boasts high water quality, high quality safety features and services –as well as good environmental management.

Shoreline Leisure Greystones is also a great option if the sun refuses to shine.

Keep the little ones busy at Zoom Adventure Play with a maze of tunnels, slides and obstacles.

The Boat Yard Gallery is also a must-see on your trip, showcasing art from local artists in a 200-year-old stone building.
