Player Press Conference Comments
Rory McIlroy: Obviously grew up playing a lot of links golf, but when you only come back to play once or twice a year, it just takes you a little time to adapt to links onditions, links turf, green speeds. The course is in great shape, and I feel like preparations have been going well.
Scottie Scheffler: I’m excited to be back over here this year. I think the golf course is great, and there should get some good wind this week. I feel like you have to be more creative here, and that’s how golf was intended to be played. I love that part of it. You have more opportunities for shot making and being creative around the greens. I think the biggest adjustment is how much the ball spins a big more off the turf here. When you’re playing shots into the wind, it will typically have much more of an effect on what the golf ball does than what we’re used to. Getting used to the heavier air and the spinnier turf, and also getting used to the firmness of the fairways, bunkering and the speed of the greens is obviously different as well.
Xander Schauffele: I really enjoy playing links golf and all the challenges that come with it. There’s a certain attitude that you need to have to play at a high level, and that comes with playing links golf. If it’s really windy, it will be tricky, but fun.
Bryson DeChambeau: I hit the golf ball really high, and out here in the wind I’ve got to control and keep a lower flight. Driving it straight and controlling that golf ball underneath the wind is going to be super key this week.
You can bet on it.
