The three players waving goodbye to Chelsea today as Boehly plans take shape

With the change from June to July comes the official end of the 2023/24 season and the beginning of the 2024/25 campaign. And as such, clubs bid farewell to a number of players who will be leaving for pastures new.

Over the last two years at Chelsea there’s been an immense amount of upheaval, with last summer seeing the likes of N’Golo Kante, Cesar Azpilicueta, Kai Havertz, Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic, Christian Pulisic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek just a few of the names exiting Stamford Bridge. The huge turnover in playing staff hasn’t exactly brought about great success, with the Blues moving from a 10th place finish in 2023 to sixth last season.

And while things could still change massively this season, there are only a few players so far who have been confirmed as leaving the club this summer. The first one will certainly leave a big hole in the team, and not just for his appearances on the pitch.

It was confirmed back at the start of May that Thiago Silva would be leaving west London to head back to Brazil, re-joining his former team Fluminense, where he spent a couple of years before a move to Milan in 2009. Silva’s performances last season were impressive, especially considering he was not expected to play as much football as he did due to injury problems throughout the defence.

That he dealt so well with the rigours of the game speak to his professionalism, and the man who captained Chelsea on multiple occasions will certainly be missed as a presence in the changing room as well.

The Champions League winner is one of just three players so far confirmed to be leaving, with academy right-backs Josh Brooking and Noah Hay also departing with their contracts concluding today.
