‘They Always Cooked for Me’- Jannik Sinner Narrates How Hard-Working Parents’ Busy Life Brought Him Close to His Grandparents
Jannik Sinner is a true example of where there’s a will, there’s a way. Sinner’s path to number 1 was nothing short of the hero’s story of overcoming struggles. He wouldn’t be where he is without his family’s support as he shares how, due to his two working parents, he developed a close bond with his grandparents, who became a much-needed pillar of support for him.
The official X page of the ATP Tour shared a clip of Jannik Sinner giving their camera crew a tour as he returned to his hometown, Sexten, Italy. Before greeting his fans, Sinner delved deeper into his childhood and talked about his parents who were working. Fortunately, he had supportive grandparents who tried to ensure he was not devoid of any needs as he took part in many sports before kicking off his tennis journey.
“If you imagine coming from here. Tennis player is It’s very, very strange. I went home to my parents’ place, but my parents’ place, they’re, they were always working so I have my house here and here is the other house with Grandma and Grandpa and they were, they always cooked for me,” Sinner said.

Furthermore, this Italian tennis star further spoke about how he created a bond with sports and how tennis wasn’t his priority at the beginning. “ I had to wear the ski stuff because I went skiing immediately from 2pm to 4pm, and then twice a week, I was playing tennis, and that was it. That’s it, you got it on camera. And sometimes I also played football because we had football practice on the tennis court,” Sinner claimed.
The World Number 1’s Revelations shows the story of a boy from a middle-class background with two working parents. Sinner’s fans already know that his parents worked at a ski lodge, where his father, Johann Sinner, was a chef and his mother, Siglinde Sinner, was a waitress. The ski lodge was named Talschlusshütte Hut and was located in Italy’s cozy Sexten, a place where Sinner’s love for skiing and tennis began to take shape.
Jannik Sinner was also a national skiing champion during his childhood. However, Sinner’s love for tennis bloomed eventually, and he chose the sport as his professional career. A 14-year-old Sinner left his home with Italian coach Ricardo Piatti to train, with his family supporting him every step of the way. The constant cheer from the family must have motivated Sinner to work hard and stand where he belongs now.

While the Italian youngster has already proven his worth on the tennis court, his fame hasn’t made him forget his roots. That is why Sinner decided to visit Sexten after reaching the ATP rank no 1. He also shared his happiness at visiting his hometown before returning to the ATP Tour.

It has been only nine days since Jannik Sinner took the ATP no 1 rank in the world and became the first tennis player from his country to attain this feat. “I think the reaction in Italy will be great. They gave me so much energy, especially in the moments where I was struggling. Sharing this moment with them and with all the people who support me, it’s amazing, I was always looking forward to giving something back to the people who helped me and share success with them. And now I can share this World No. 1, which is the ultimate goal for every player, with the whole country. It’s one of the best feelings,” Sinner said.
