Thousands of jobs at Aldi, Tesco, Asda and Lidl – way to apply

If you are out of work or fancy a change a supermarket might have the perfect job for you. There are currently thousands of vacancies across the big six firms – Tesco, Asda, Aldi, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Lidl and Aldi.

These range from grocery assistants to drivers and office workers to managers. There are vacancies available across the whole country and applying for them can be straightforward.




Each has their own perks – often including discounts on your shopping – with some promising paid breaks. There are also apprenticeships available.

We’ve taken a look at what is available across the six supermarkets. And we’ve added the handy links to get you on their website to help make that first step to applying.

Aldi

Aldi has a massive range of jobs available including apprenticeships. It says: “We’re the UK’s fourth largest supermarket, with over 1000 stores across the UK (not to mention our growing global presence). But we know our success has only been possible thanks to our amazing Aldi colleagues.

“That’s why we celebrate everyone’s achievements, offer competitive pay and create great working environments. And that’s how we’ve become a multi award-winning employer – but it’s the least we can do. We know that our people make Aldi mean even more.”

There are hundreds of vacancies across the country with jobs for customer-facing store staff and behind-the-scenes workers including on warehouse and transport teams. Warehouse managers can earn up to £94,240 while store managers start on £50,600 rising to £65,995.

Store assistants earn up to £13.35 an hour – £13.95 in London – while cleaners get £12 an hour or £13.55 in London. Apprenticeships are also available for stores, logistics and drivers where you can be paid as you learn.

Lidl

The store offers a range of benefits including private medical and dental insurance, 10% discount on shopping and any member of staff who has a baby gets a gift of baby essentials.

Tesco

Tesco currently has 2,357 vacancies across the country at stores ranging from the convenience Tesco Local to the massive Tesco Extras. Working in-store there is everything from shop assistants and managers through to pharmacy managers.

There are driving and distribution vacancies as well as office vacancies. The supermarket chain also runs graduate and apprenticeship schemes with graduates earning between £30,000-37,000 and apprentices £23,000.

Morrisons

Morrisons currently has 1,036 vacancies across close to 500 stores. It says: “Our over 100,000 colleagues work as one team in all kinds of roles across our stores, head office, manufacturing sites and logistic depots to provide great value fresh food and customer service.”

It has jobs going in retail and logists as well as head office and engineers. It also has vacancies in manufacturing saying: “The UK’s 2nd largest fresh food manufacturer with 18 sites, we love providing our customers with the freshest produce.”

Asda

Asda says working for them is good for them and you. Asda currently has 342 vacancies across a network of roles from in-store and head office to logistics and warehouse. Store roles include retail assistants and managers, pharmacists and opticians. Logistic roles include warehouse and transport managers and team members.

Workers’ benefits include free physiotherapy consultations, mental health support, free eye tests and 10% off shopping. There is also 20% of Asda travel insurance, 30% off Asda mobile undles and 10% off Asda pet insurance, some of its pharmacy services and Asda tyres.

Sainsbury’s

Sainsbury’s has a range of full and part time jobs – both permanent and summer work. These are in everything from driving and engineering to instore managers and retail colleagues for its network of stores which includes Argos and the Sainsbury Locals as well as their bigger stores. There are also admin jobs at head office.


“They say everyone is paid “fairly” saying: “We expect the best, and so should you. At Sainsbury’s everyone is paid fairly with one of the best rates in the industry. We have one contract that’s consistent for all retail colleagues, at £12 per hour. For roles based in London, there’s a higher rate of £13.15.

“Certain roles, such as Drivers, attract an additional skills payment to make them more competitive. Sainsbury’s Online Delivery Drivers receive £13.50 Nationally and £14.65 in London (£12 Nationally & £13.15 in London with a £1.50 market payment). For Argos Delivery Drivers, it’s £13 Nationally and £14.15 London (£12 Nationally & £13.15 London with a £1 market payment).
