Three arrested in ATM ‘cash trapping’ fraud probe

Three people have been arrested as part of an investigation into ‘cash trapping’ devices being used on ATMs in Dublin and Meath.

It is understood that around €90,000 in cash withdrawals were blocked at various locations in the past week.

Gardaí identified a number of incidents where ATMs were fitted with ‘cash trapping’ devices, which block users from receiving their money after making a withdrawal from the ATM.

Yesterday, three men, aged in their 20s and 40s, were arrested by gardaí attached to the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau, and are being held at a garda station in Dublin.

A quantity of cash and a number of ‘cash trapping’ devices were also seized.
