Three Divisions Crown Champions at State Boys Golf Tournament
KOHLER, Wis. – Three teams and three individuals were crowned champions at the 2024 State Boys Golf Championships at Blackwolf Run.
Waunakee won the Division 1 team championship with a four-player, 36-hole score of 619 for the two-day tournament. The Warriors’ win their first boys golf team title in their third State appearance. Last year’s runner-up Eau Claire Memorial finished second with a score of 620.
Senior Cody Schmidt of Germantown won the individual medalist honor in Division 1 after placing tied for 57th a year ago. He shot 1-over-par with a 36-hole total of 145 for the tourney. Junior Lincoln Hottmann of DeForest was runner-up with a 3-over-par 147
Lakeland won its first boys golf team championship in the Thunderbirds’ eighth State appearance, capturing the Division 2 title with a four-player, 27-hole score of 463. Edgerton was runner-up with a score of 468.
Junior Caleb Kern of Edgerton was the Division 2 medalist, winning a two-hole playoff over senior teammate Cameron Lee, tying at +3 with a 27-hole score of 111. Kern tied for 18th last season after tying for 29th in 2022. and Lee tied for 23rd in 2023 and 22nd in 2022.
Mineral Point claimed the Division 3 team championship after finishing runner-up last year and third in 2022. It’s the Pointers’ first State team title in eight appearances. Chetek-Weyerhaeuser finished runner-up with a score of 503.
Senior Logan Weissinger of Durand-Arkansaw was the Division 3 individual medalist at +5 with a score of 113 on 27 holes. Last year’s champion, senior Kian Bystol Flores of Cambridge, tied for second place with senior Carson Mersberger of Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah. They each were +6 by shooting scores of 114.
