Three farms sold at online auction day
Last Friday, June 21, saw the online auction of four separate properties in Counties Wexford, Carlow and Wicklow with Gorey-based auctioneers Quinn Property.
The properties in question were a 12-acre holding on the edge of Bunclody, a 22-acre property near Hacketstown, County Carlow, a 12-acre farm near Enniscorthy and a 25-acre holding near Brittas Bay in County Wicklow.
According to auctioneer David Quinn, there was plenty of interest beforehand in the collection of farms for sale, with the online sale format having already proven to be a successful one with an impressive record of previous sales days.
As it turned out, three of the four were sold on the day, with the 25-acre Wicklow property being the only one not to sell on the auction day.
The 12-acre farm at Courtclogh near Enniscorthy was guiding between €10,000 and €12,000/acre before the auction, but sold for €198,000 (€16,500/acre).
The 22-acre parcel at Constable Hill, Hacketstown, was sold to a local farmer for an undisclosed sum immediately after the auction.
The 12.5-acre holding at Ballinapark on the edge of Bunclody was the most successful. According to David, the strong levels of enquiries before the launch translated into 15 registered bidders, with interest mainly from local farmers and businesspeople.
With a pre-auction guide of €15,000/acre, the bidding opened at €100,000 (€8,000/acre). It moved quickly to a price of €340,000 (€27,000/acre), however, and after a brief recess, bidding resumed with the two remaining bidders bringing it to €370,000, or ca. €30,000 per acre.
