Three people rescued after getting into difficulty off Cork coast

In a dramatic rescue shortly after 5pm on Wednesday, the trio were located and safely rescued in an operation involving Youghal RNLI, Coast Guard and Gardaí.

Initial reports indicated that the paddle board got caught in a strong current off Youghal’s main strand and was being swept out to sea.

The alarm was raised by people on shore who immediately realised the difficulty the paddle boarders were in.

Youghal strand was relatively busy at the time with walkers and bathers enjoying the summer evening.

All three paddle boarders were safely brought to shore by the Youghal RNLI lifeboat crew.

The trio were uninjured in their ordeal but were treated for hypothermia and shock at the scene as a precautionary measure.

Locals said the lifeboat was launched and at the scene within minutes which proved a critical factor in the rescue.
