Three schools in Louth and Meath announced in new pilot programme focused on physical activity
A total of 24 schools nationwide will receive a grant to support teachers and school leaders in the integration of physical activity in teaching and learning.
Minister of State for Sport, Physical Education and the Gaeltacht, Thomas Byrne TD, has today announced the schools selected to take part in a new pilot programme focused on physical activity in teaching and learning.
A total of 24 schools nationwide with two in Louth (SN Muire Rampark and Redeemer Girls NS) and one in Meath (Kilskyre NS) will receive a grant under the new physical activity pilot programme to support teachers and school leaders in the integration of physical activity in teaching and learning.
Some of the selected projects include: “STEMOLYMPICS – Racing Towards Data Discovery”; “Exploring Our Heritage, A Local History Orienteering Podcast”; and “Promoting Gymnastics through Drama and Music”.

The pilot programme will run over the school year 2024/2025 and a full list of the 24 selected schools is provided below.
Announcing the selected schools, Minister Byrne said:
“The wide range of selected projects under the new physical activity pilot programme illustrates the many ways that physical activity can be used a means of delivering teaching and learning outcomes. The significant number of applications received under the new pilot programme also demonstrates the interest that schools have when it comes to integrating physical activity into the teaching and learning of a curricular or cross-curricular area. I want to sincerely thank every school who applied under the pilot programme and for taking the time to do so. I look forward to seeing the rollout of the 24 selected school projects which will inform our continued work in this area.”
