Tipperary businesswomen travel to Cape Town for Entrepreneur Of The Year retreat

A delegation of more than 100 of Ireland’s top entrepreneurs including the co-founders of Clonmel-based Shorla Oncology, Orlaith Ryan and Sharon Cunningham recently travelled to South Africa for the annual EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™ CEO Retreat.

Running from Sunday 19th to Sunday 26th May, the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™ CEO retreat was dedicated to fostering entrepreneurship. The aim of the retreat was to support, inspire, and challenge the entrepreneurs to take their businesses to the next level.

The travelling delegation included this year’s 24 EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™ finalists as well as programme alumni representing a broad spectrum of industries as well as representatives from Enterprise Ireland and Invest Northern Ireland.

The Irish entrepreneurs spent the week in South Africa where they participated in a comprehensive programme of networking, executive coaching, and education. The itinerary included meetings with some of South Africa’s most successful entrepreneurs and business leaders as well as inspirational talks by global thought leaders on a variety of topics.

This year’s retreat also featured visits to University of Cape Town Graduate Business School, township development hub, Philippi Village, start-up incubator, Innovation City, and a host of successful companies based in the region.

Looking back on the trip, Orlaith and Sharon said, “The EY Entrepreneur of the Year Retreat was an exceptional experience. Networking and engaging with a group of likeminded, ambitious, and supportive entrepreneurs was a real privilege, in addition to learning from the highest calibre of speakers throughout the week. The organisation, attention to detail and engagement from the EY team was unparalleled, instilling an energy and drive that will remain long after the trip!”
