TMZ: Jared McCain Impersonated on Snapchat by Person Scamming Fans Ahead of NBA Draft

Jared McCain, a potential lottery pick in the 2024 NBA draft, is being impersonated by a person on Snapchat who has been scamming fans for money.

Per TMZ Sports, the person has been using the social media site claiming to be McCain and spends time building up trust with users before offering them “gifted items from SKIMS and other companies at a discounted price.”

When users agree to the deal, the impersonator tells them to forward money to a CashApp account “that doesn’t feature McCain’s image or name … which naturally sparks concern, but the imposter assures them that’s only to prevent ladies from sending him money to get his attention.”

Once the person being scammed completes the transaction, the scammer either ghosts or blocks the buyer.

TMZ noted people within McCain’s camp are aware of the scam and are in contact with Snapchat to get the fake account deleted.

The NBA entered into a partnership with SKIMS, the shapewear and clothing brand co-founded by Kim Kardashian, at the start of the 2023-24 season.

B/R’s Jonathan Wasserman projected McCain will be selected by the Miami Heat with the No. 15 overall pick in the 2024 NBA draft in his most recent mock.

McCain spent last season at Duke where he was named to the ACC All-Freshman team. The 20-year-old guard averaged 14.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and shot 41.4 percent from three-point range in 36 starts for the Blue Devils.
