Toddler dies following tragic incident in Waterford

Gardaí are to prepare a file for the Waterford coroner after the tragic death of a two-year-old girl.

The toddler was found unresponsive by shocked family members at her home outside Dungarvan in west Waterford yesterday evening.

Emergency services were immediately notified and both gardaí and paramedics raced to the property.

Desperate efforts were made at the scene to stabilise the condition of the little girl and she was rushed to University Hospital Waterford (UHW).

Despite the efforts of doctors and nurses, the girl was pronounced dead a short time after admission.

Gardaí stressed that they are treating the incident as a tragic accident.

A family liaison officer has been appointed to assist the toddler’s heartbroken family.

Gardaí will now prepare a file for the Waterford coroner with an inquest into the tragedy expected to be held next year.

Neighbours have rallied to support the family involved who are said to be devastated by the tragedy.
