Transfer news live as Greenwood approves Man Utd exit and Arsenal to sell four
Arsenal are likely to be busy in the transfer window with ins and outs.
And they are certain to offload players with the likes of Aaron Ramsdale, Eddie Nketiah, Emile Smith Rowe and Reiss Nelson all potential departures.
But it may be difficult for them all to go because otherwise Arsenal could leave themselves short when it comes to “homegrown” players and that could affect the size of their squad.
Each Premier League squad of 25 allows up to 17 players who do not fill the “home grown player” criteria. The rest are made up of homegrown players developed in the UK with the likes of William Saliba, Gabriel and David Raya also fulfilling that category because they were developed here.
However, the likes of Ramsdale, Nketiah, Smith Rowe and Nelson are a big part of the Arsenal squad and while two – possibly three – might go it would be hard to see all of them depart.
With three years left on his deal, Ramsdale could yet leave on a season-long loan agreement if the right club does not come up.
The sales may help raise funds with Arsenal making RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko their No1 striker target while they also want a right winger and potentially a midfielder if Thomas Partey goes.
One midfielder definitely NOT joining is Everton’s Amadou Onana who was also linked in January but that caused raised eyebrows back then and is still not on the radar now because he is not the type of midfielder they want.
