Translink: Train line from Lisburn to Belfast closed over summer – BBC News
Trains serving Lisburn, Newry and Portadown will be stopped and replaced with buses over the summer, starting from Wednesday 3 July.
The tracks will be closed for engineering work to realign the track to serve the new Grand Central Station.
Translink say bus substitution services will operate between Lisburn and Lanyon Place in Belfast, and between Belfast and Newry and Portadown.
The cross-border Enterprise train service to Dublin will stop at Newry with bus replacement services available.
NI Railways tickets will work on Metro and Glider services between York Street, Lanyon Station, City Centre, Botanic and City Hospital.
The Londonderry, Bangor and Larne line services will keep operating to and from Lanyon Place.
The Enterprise service will stop at Newry with bus replacement services available, and several Saturday and Sunday services between Dublin and Belfast have been cancelled altogether.
A full list of replacement services can be found on the Translink website.
Passengers should check the journey planner on Translink’s website and leave extra time for their journeys.
‘Not as convenient’
Passengers, like Derek and Anne Smyth who were due to be on the train from Lisburn, have begun arriving in Belfast.
They said the bus connection was “not as convenient” but that it worked fine.
“We knew it would be a bit bumpy as it’s the first day,” they said.
However, the couple added passengers who may need to make onward journeys elsewhere may find the journey takes a little longer.
At the Europa Bus Centre, extra Translink staff are in place to help travellers with their journey.
There are also leaflets with information on the changes.
Rita, Olivia and Daniel are trying to get to Lisburn for their swimming class but have been disrupted by the change in service.
“We came here to get a train, but now we have been told we have to wait here for a bus to then get another bus,” Rita said.
