Transport fare changes come into effect

Changes to fares will come into effect from today affecting the cost of both cash and Leap Card fares on Transport for Ireland public transport services.

This is the first phase of the 2024 fares plan.

From today, short journey fares will increase for Luas and Dublin Bus services, with Iarnród Éireann rail service fares set to rise tomorrow.

It will mean fares for Leap Cards will increase by 20 cent to €1.50, while those using cash will pay €2, a rise of 30 cent.

A new flat fare of €1.50 for Leap Card users will be introduced on regional town services in Athlone, Balbriggan, Carlow, Drogheda, Dundalk, Navan and Sligo.

The cash fare for these services will change to €2.

The TFI 90-minute fare scheme, allowing Leap Cards users free transfer on selected public transport services in Dublin, will remain in place at an unchanged cost of €2.
