Tributes have been paid to a man who lost his life in a house fire in Co Mayo on Thursday.
Dusan Ivan (40) lost his life in a fire in Ballina in Co Mayo on Thursday morning July 11th at around 8.15am.
Mr Ivan who was originally from Presov in Slovakia had lived in Ireland for a a number of years.
He had worked in security in Westport. Locals said he was a lovely guy and local Councillor Mark Duffy described him as a huge loss to the area.
Now his friend Paulina Juraszek has set up a GoFundMe page to help defray funeral costs.
She said: “I am setting up this fundraiser to help the family to get through this devastating time.
“Dusan died suddenly in a tragic accident. He was a friendly and happy guy.
“I would like to help the family with all the costs of the funeral etc. No matter how big or small every donation will be greatly appreciated. Big condolences to all the family and friends.”
To date there have been over 400 donors and almost €18,000 has been raised.
This week, a garda spokesman confirmed that the body of a man had been discovered at 8.15am on Thursday.
“Gardaí received a report of a fire at a residence in Ballina. Fire services attended the scene on Tolan Street, Ballina and made the area safe.
“It is understood the fire occurred above the Boyle Sports betting shop premises. “A male was located deceased in the residence.
“A second male has been conveyed to University Hospital Mayo for treatment for his injuries. Enquiries are ongoing.”
