Tributes to Waterford car crash victim Margaret Burnes – ‘She had a sunny disposition’
Gardaí are investigating the fatal road traffic collision that occurred at about 9.20am on Tuesday morning, July 9, near Dungarvan, County Waterford. The collision involved a truck and a car which occurred on the N25 at Garranbane.
The driver of the car, Ms Burnes, was treated by emergency services at the scene but passed away from her injuries. The driver of the truck was taken to Waterford University Hospital where he received treatment for injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. Road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and were travelling in the area at the time of the collision are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.

Margaret (Maggie Aggie) Burnes (née Troy) lived at White Strand, Abbeyside, Dungarvan and was formerly of Ballyogarty, Kilmacthomas, County Waterford. She is predeceased by her parents James and Nellie, brother Shamie and sisters Pat and Philomena.
Margaret is mourned by her daughter Jenny, granddaughter Sophie, sisters Ollie and Barbara, her brother John, brother-in-law Gerry and John, sisters-in-law Mary and Ann, nephews, nieces, neighbours and extended family.
Ms Burnes will lie in Repose at Drohan’s Funeral Home in Dungarvan, on Sunday, July 14, from 4pm to 6pm. Funeral Mass will take place on Monday, July 15, at 11am in St Anne’s Church, Ballylaneen. Burial will be afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
Condolences have been expressed from far and wide. “We are deeply saddened to hear of Margaret’s passing,” said one mourner. “She was a regular student at our training centre and always brought an enthusiastic attitude and a sunny disposition. She will be missed. Our condolences to her family.”
Another friend wrote: “Sincere condolences to Margaret’s family at this sad time. Margaret was an enthusiastic and determined student with me at the Adult Learning Centre in Poleberry and was always eager to learn more.”
Another said: “Sincere condolence to all Margaret’s family at this very sad time. A lovely quiet lady, always remember her coming into Centra and having the chat and a smile. RIP Margaret.”
