Two former Nebraska men’s basketball players competing for 2024 Olympics roster spots

Two former Nebraska men’s basketball players will have the opportunity to make Olympic rosters in the coming weeks. Guard Keisei Tominaga is one of 24 players who will go to training camp with Team Japan later this week, according to a release. Forward Lat Mayen is part of South Sudan’s preliminary 25-man roster.

Tominaga finished his Nebraska career in March after three seasons in Lincoln. The 3-point ace shot 37.4% from beyond the arc while averaging 11.4 points per game over his career. He’ll join Team Japan after recent NBA Draft workouts with the Sacramento Kings, Los Angeles Clippers and Chicago Bulls.

Tominaga competed in 3X3 basketball at the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo. Last summer, he played for the Japanese National Team in the FIBA World Cup, helping guide Japan to a 3-2 record to qualify for the 2024 games.

Mayen, who was born in South Sudan and grew up in Australia, played for NU from 2020 to 2022, averaging 7.2 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. Since graduating, he’s played professionally in Australia and New Zealand.
