UNC Basketball features top-10 backcourt heading into 2024-2025 season

As the dust has settled during the college basketball offseason, rosters for the 2024-2025 season are essentially set.

Grant Hughes of 247Sports dove into the top backcourts in the country heading into the new season, and to no surprise, the UNC basketball program is high up on the list.

Hughes ranks the backcourt duo of RJ Davis and Elliot Cadeau as the No. 2 overall in the country, only trailing Kansas. Here’s what Hughes had to say regarding the Tar Heels being ranked No. 2 overall on his list:

ACC Player of the Year RJ Davis is back for a fifth season and will be among the favorites for National Player of the Year. The Tar Heels also returned former five-star Elliot Cadeau, and the staff expects big improvement from a freshman campaign that featured moments of brilliance. Hubert Davis and his staff coerced lockdown defender Seth Trimble out of the portal and back to Chapel Hill in one of the most underrated moments of the offseason. Five-star shooting guard Ian Jackson is ahead of schedule and has impressed onlookers with his elite scoring touch during UNC’s alumni games last month.

When you return a player of RJ Davis’ caliber, good things are expected to happen. The reigning ACC Player of the Year is aiming to stamp his UNC basketball legacy with another historic season in his fifth season on campus, as he’ll look to lead the Tar Heels back to the national title game.

Cadeau is expected to make significant strides in his second season with the Tar Heels, as the talented point guard is regarded as one of the most elite passers in the country. If he can shoot the basketball at a more consistent rate, this duo will be very difficult to stop.

Fans of the UNC basketball program should be excited to see what this duo is capable of in their second season together. Needless to say, the success of both Davis and Cadeau will play a large role in how this UNC basketball team fares throughout the 2024-2025 season.
