Value Scope: Each way horseracing tips from Steve Jones for Saturday on ITV
Our ace tipster casts his expert eye over the TV cards at Haydock and Beverley and points the way to three bets that offer the best value
MISTRAL STAR (3.00) should be a hit in the Betfred Nifty 50 Lester Piggott Fillies’ Stakes.
She looked a very smart filly when bolting up in a Salisbury handicap on fast ground last summer and she confirmed her potential when chasing home La Mehana in a French Listed contest later in the season.
The form looks very solid as the winner of that race went on to hit the frame in Group 1 at Longchamp on Arc weekend.
Hughie Morrison’s filly has an excellent record on quick ground and she looked sure to improve for her return to action at Ayr.
She’s also bred to make an impact at this Group 3 level. Morrison trained her half-brother Telecaster to win three Group 2s and another of her siblings also won at that level. Have 3pts each-way at 14-1. Most bookies are going four places with Sky Bet stretching to five.
BLESS HIM (3.35) is very one dimensional in that he needs a strong pace to tow him into the race.
He’ll get that in the Betfred John Of Gaunt Stakes with the likes of confirmed frontrunners Point Lynas, Pogo and Flight Plan in the field.
David Simcock’s veteran doesn’t get his ideal set up very often in Group races but his handicap form suggests he’s still very capable when things drop right.
He came within a neck of landing the Victoria Cup at Ascot last month when a fast-finishing third behind well-handicapped The Wizard Of Eye.
There will be a dash to the bend from the pacesetters and Jamie Spencer will be able to conserve all Bless Him’s energy in the early stages from stall two. Have 1pt each-way at 25-1. Several firms are going four places.
There’s a decent card at Beverley where NO NAY NICKI (3.15) is worth backing.
She ran well on the only previous occasion she wore a hood and she seems to respond positively to a change of headgear.
The ground was too soft for her liking at York two weeks ago and she has become well treated on her best form.
With Richard Fahey’s team clicking into top gear, the 20-1 is too much to resist. Most bookies are offering five places. Sky Bet is going a generous six.
