Verizon to create 400 jobs in Limerick city
Four hundred jobs are expected to be created over the next two years by communications and technology company Verizon, which is setting up a centre of excellence in Limerick city.
The centre will be based at the 1BQ building that is currently being constructed on the city’s riverfront.
Verizon is one of the big global companies involved in providing international communications with voice data and video services. It is active in Ireland since 2006, and employs 1,000 people in Dublin.
As part of an expansion of its services, Verizon is establishing a new global centre in Limerick, providing a series of strategic global functions including network engineering, cyber services, and financial operations.
It has retained 10,000sq.m of the new 1BQ riverside development on Bishops Quay, a building designed to be sustainable, energy efficient and comfortable for employees, and due for occupation in spring of next year.
Verizon president Craig Silliman said that as the company continues to expand its global footprint, grouping a series of functions in a world class centre will improve effectiveness for customers, employees and partners.
The investment is backed by IDA Ireland which said Verizon’s decision to expand will position the midwest and Ireland well for further investment in the sector.
