VHI Women’s Mini Marathon: everything you need to know ahead of this weekend’s race
Whether you are taking part or cheering someone on, here is everything you need to know before the 10km race gets underway.
Where do I collect my number? If you opted to collect your number instead of having it posted out to you, there is a final collection day on Saturday from 11am until 5pm at the Hilton Conrad at St Kevin’s, Dublin 2.
Where are the start and finish lines?
There are five different entry points, which are each distinguished by colour and signify how fast you plan to complete the 10km race.
The elite category will be first to set off, followed by runners, the fast joggers, joggers and then walkers.
Those in the running will hold white numbers, the fast jogging wave will hold pink numbers while joggers will have blue and walkers will hold yellow.
What time does it start? How early should I be there?
The race gets underway from 12.30pm this Sunday, June 2, but organisers ask that all participants are in their ‘wave’ by 11.30am.
White and pink waves will enter through the junction of Pembroke Street Upper and Leeson Street Lower.
The blue wave will enter through the junction of Hume Street and Stephen Green.
The green wave will enter through the junction of Merrion Square West/Merrion Street Lower, while the yellow wave will enter through the junction of Herbert Place and Mount Street Crescent.
Is there somewhere to leave my bag?
There are baggage drop locations at each of the five entry routes which open at 10.30am. Organisers ask that participants bring a clear reusable bag for their belongings and add that they are left at the owner’s own risk.
The white and pink wave bag drop will be after their entrance point on Fitzwilliam Square.
The blue wave bag drop will be after the entrance point on Baggot Street.
The green wave bag drop will be after the entrance point on Merrion Square West, while the yellow wave bag drop will be after the entrance on Mount Street Upper.
What is the course route?
The race gets underway at Fitzwilliam Street Upper before turning along Leeson Street, Morehampton Road, Donnybrook Road and the Stillorgan Road before hitting the 5k mark.
Participants will then turn onto Nutley Lane and take a left onto Merrion Road and hitting the final stretch at Pembroke Road.
Will there be water stations?
Yes, there will be three water stations along the course but you can also bring a bottle with you if needed. The first water station is after the 3km mark, on the Stillorgan Road near the Teresian School. The second is at the 6km marker on the Stillorgan Road near Belfield Bridge and the final water station is outside AIB Plaza in Ballsbridge once you hit the 8km mark.
Will roads be closed in Dublin on Sunday?
A number of temporary road closures will be in place on race day, with a parking suspension in place for Herbert Street from Saturday.
The full list of closures and the hours during which they will be in place is available here.
How do I reach the race route?
There will be restricted car parking around the city centre, but accessible parking is available. The map for accessible parking spaces is available here.
Those planning on using Dublin Bus to reach the route should check the website for any diversions that may be in place due to road closures.
Is there still time to sign up?
The mini marathon is now sold out, but there will soon be a chance to sign up for next year as an early bird.
