Meath’s Vikki Wall has missed out on selection for the Ireland Sevens squad for the Olympics.

The former Gaelic football and Australian Rules player made the switch to the oval ball game last September in a bid to make it to Paris, but didn’t do enough to get into Allan Temple-Jones’ squad which will be captained by Lucy Rock.

Wicklow’s Rock is one of the most experienced players in the squad which also includes Ashleigh Orchard, who has made it back a year after giving birth to her daughter Arabella.

Fifteens internationals Amee-Leeigh Murphy Crowe, Stacey Flood, Emily Lane, Beibhinn Parsons and Eve Higgins all make the grade.

Claire Boles and Amy Larn have been selected as travelling reserves.

On the men’s side, there’s a place for Hugo Keenan and Andrew Smith who switched from the XVs side late in the day.

Both players had previously been involved in Sevens and they join a squad who have realistic hopes of securing a medal, led by Harry McNulty. Billy Dardis misses out with a shoulder injury.

The Pool draws will be made on June 23 and the Ireland squads will have a 10-day training camp in the French city of Tours in July.
