Vlahov Transferring to UC Santa Barbara Women’s Basketball – University of California, Santa Barbara
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara Women’s Basketball team will welcome Ruby Vlahov, a transfer from Saint Mary’s in Moraga, Calif. Head Coach Renee Jimenez inked transfer Mary McMorris after playing her freshman season with the Gaels.
“Ruby is a dynamic post-player who can play inside and out,” explained Jimenez. “She competes on the defensive end and rebounds very well. She works extremely hard and will be a leader for our team. Additionally, She has tremendous collegiate and international experience that will help us immediately. A big Gaucho welcome to Ruby and her family!”
The 6-3 post-player has a wealth of experience, before attending Saint Mary’s she was the captain of the Western Australian State teams for the U16 and U20 teams. Vlahov was also selected as a member of the NBA Academy Women’s Program and was one of just seven Australians invited to attend the WNBA Academy Showcase in New Orleans in 2020. Most recently she played for the Perry Lakes Hawks in the NBL1 East League.
During her first season in Moraga, the Perth, Australia native appeared in 30 games making five starts. She averaged 14 minutes per game, shot .364 from the field and .385 from beyond the arc. Additionally, she grabbed 73 total rebounds and recorded 20 steals on the defensive end. Her best game of the season came against Pepperdine where she recorded 13 points, four rebounds and two assists in the conference win.
Vlahov will join a Gaucho team coming off a 16-15 (10-10 Big West) season while ranking top 40 in three-point field goal percentage and top 75 in defensive rebounds per game.
