Vogue Williams puts herself on a shopping ban after ‘ridiculous drunk purchase’

Vogue Williams has put herself on ‘a shopping ban’ as she revealed a drunk purchase she made that went wrong.

The podcaster and presenter revealed she is a Tina Turner ‘mega-fan’ and bought what she thought was the singer’s autobiography after a few drinks, only for the book to be a fan-made book.

Sharing the anecdote on Virgin Radio UK, where Vogue is filling in for Ryan Tubridy this week, she said: ‘I’m a megafan of Tina Turner and I bought what I thought was her autobiography when I’d had a few drinks, and it turned out it was a fan book that was made by a fan. It was about 20 pages long and it cost me quite a lot of money.’

Appealing to listeners to send in their own hilarious purchases, Vogue added that they ‘don’t have to be drunk purchases’ as she detailed her husband Spencer’s recent quirky purchases.

She told listeners that her husband Spencer, who is sober, ‘makes the strangest purchases all the time.’

‘He recently bought, what he calls, a jaw resizer and it’s this thing that you put in your mouth and you start chewing on it because it supposedly makes your jaw bigger,’ she explained, laughing, ‘It is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen — and nasal strips that he has to open his nose more that he wears running.

‘He just buys the strangest things.’

The mother-of-three told listeners that she was on a spending ban, reiterating the point on the latest episode of My Therapist Ghosted Me, which she co-hosts with comic Joanne McNally.

‘I’m on a shopping ban,’ she told Joanne, adding that she does it ‘every so often’ when she is feeling guilty about her spending habits.

‘I’ve decided I’m on a shopping ban for over a month,’ Vogue reiterated.

‘I nearly bought something yesterday and I said, “No. You’re on a shopping ban!” I don’t actually need anything.’

Vogue is filling in on Ryan Tubridy’s 10am to 1pm slot on Virgin Radio UK for the week, kicking off the gig at a slightly later day of Tuesday after having to call Monday’s episode off due to losing her voice at Glastonbury.

Steve Denver filled the slot in on Monday with Vogue telling listeners on Tuesday to ‘blame Coldplay at Glastonbury’ for her absence.

Next week, fellow Irish presenter Angela Scanlon will take the reigns at Virgin Radio UK.
