Wahoo adds GoPro functionality to ELEMNT computers

Wahoo has updated its second-generation ELEMNT Roam and Bolt computers so that they can now be used to control GoPro cameras.

The update was teased back in March among a raft of new features but has now officially been added, in what is likely to be a popular move. It makes it possible to alter a GoPro camera’s mode, stop or start recordings and take pictures using an ELEMNT computer.

Once connected to a compatible GoPro camera, a new display will be added to the scrollable screens that will provide a breakdown of key information, including the camera’s battery status, the current mode, the number of files captured or video duration, plus the recording time or photos remaining.

Wahoo says that the new feature is compatible with ELEMNT Bolt v2 and ELEMNT Roam v2 computers through firmware version XXX+. They can be paired with any GoPro Hero 9, 10, 11 or 12 cameras, barring the Hero 11 Mini. Only one camera can be paired at a time.

The latest addition won’t come as too much of a surprise as it was first teased back in March, at the same time that Wahoo added a host of new features to its ELEMNT computers. Sticking to a similar theme, they all added extra functionality to the computers, including the ability to control smart bike lights, turning the computers into what Wahoo described as “a centralised hub for bike lighting management.”

It is now also possible to control music playback through the devices, such as playing, pausing or skipping songs, while you can also adjust the volume. In the final changes, Wahoo also added a dark mode to improve the computers’ displays in low-light conditions, while it also made the computers compatible with a greater number of training apps, including Humango.
