Wake Forest to Take Part in Hosting Inaugural ITA Summer Masters Series – Wake Forest University Athletics

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – As summer days draw near, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) recently announced six host sites for its newest Summer Masters Series set to begin in the incoming months, with Wake Forest being included in the mix.

The Demon Deacons will hold competition at its tennis center during July 12-14, featuring singles competition and a chance for participants to earn monetary prizes. A completed ITA waiver and registration for the Wake Forest event is due by July 7.

“I am really excited to have the opportunity to host one of the new ITA Masters Series events here at Wake this summer,” said head women’s tennis coach Jeff Wyshner. “They are going to be phenomenal events with the ITA providing $3,000 in prize money and four qualifying spots to the ITA Summer National Championship event, which will have $20,000 in prize money and will now be limited to just 32 spots, so qualifying through the Masters Series will be critical. I think it says a lot about our facility, our history of running great college events and our men’s and women’s programs that we were approached about hosting one of these elite events!”

A predetermined, minimum World Tennis Number (WTN) rating of 17.0 for women and 10.0 for men is required to compete. There are no limitations on the amount of events a player can participate in.

Other host schools include Northwestern, Baylor, Cal State Fullerton, Wisconsin and Texas A&M. The series’ duration will last from June 22 to July 29, with one men’s and women’s event occurring each week. The singles semifinalists will earn direct entry into the ITA National Summer Championships.

The full schedule can be found here.
