KANSAS CITY – LC State Men’s Basketball earned high praise from the NABC on Monday with three NABC Honors Court members and an NABC Team Academic Excellence Award. Davian Brown, Gorden Boykins and Sam Stockton each earned individual accolades.
The NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards recognize men’s basketball programs that completed the 2023-24 academic year with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. The NABC Honors Court, meanwhile, includes junior, senior and graduate student men’s basketball players who finished the 2023-24 year with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher.
The Warrior Men’s Basketball team concluded the 2023-24 school year with a 3.22 grade point average.
“What a great way to cap off a special 2023-24 season with this recognition for the team’s work in the classroom,” Head Coach Austin Johnson said. “We encourage our guys to compete in everything they do and the classroom is no different. This is further proof of the quality and caliber of student-athlete we have committed to recruiting to LC.”
Brown and Stockton both graduated in the spring with Business Administration degrees. Brown did so with a 3.35 grade point average and Stockton with a 3.51 grade point average. Boykins wrapped up his junior year as a Kinesiology major with a grade point average of 3.50.
“Excited for Sam, Davian and Gorden to achieve the individual recognition,” Johnson added. “They not only were difference makers on the court this year during a special season, but also represented themselves at an elite level in the classroom. They earned it.”
