Wexford fisherman slams quota rules following large-scale raid – ‘We’re being treated like criminals’

Upon hearing that more than 20 detectives, some of them armed, had arrived at his Saltees Fish factory in Kilmore Quay, Seamus O’Flaherty’s initial reaction was “what f***king for?” Having been informed by phone call that a raid was under way at the premises, Seamus quickly drove to the scene, his mind racing.

“I was coming down thinking that maybe one of the truck drivers had done something, brought back something on the truck, but the detectives told me straight off they were part of the fraud squad and they were investigating fraud, so I guessed then it must be to do with fishing. They didn’t give too much away, but they wanted every place searched, they interviewed a couple of people, one woman was interviewed for about an hour-and-a-half, but it seemed more like an interrogation.
