Wexford Football League: Gorey Rangers hit Moyne for six in Premier Division

Gavin O’Brien of Gorey Rangers scored twice against Moyne Rangers.

Premier Division runners-up Gorey Rangers proved much too strong for Moyne Rangers in Altura Credit Union Park on Wednesday evening. Gavin O’Brien opened the scoring with just five minutes on the clock, while Caleb Byrne-Murphy bagged an early double to give them a 3-0 advantage by the 17th minute.

Rian Fitzpatrick got in on the act in the 25th minute to give the hosts a commanding 4-0 lead at the break. Gavin O’Brien grabbed his second five minutes after the interval, and Luke Greene got his name on the scoresheet to close out an emphatic victory.

Rangers got another win on the board on Friday evening as they edged out Wexford Bohemians 3-2 at ‘The Brute’ Walsh Park.

The visitors went ahead in the 16th minute thanks to an own goal, but Conor Kehoe equalised five minutes later. Ryan Cullen restored the Rangers’ advantage in the 32nd minute and they made it 3-1 ten minutes after the interval when the in-form Caleb Byrne-Murphy hit the back of the net.

Rhys Murphy grabbed Bohs’ second goal just three minutes later, but that’s how it stayed.

Third-placed Forth Celtic, who have a Wexford Cup final to look forward to, picked up three points in midweek with a 2-0 win against local rivals Wexford Bohemians.

Daniel O’Brien opened the scoring in the fourth minute and Eoin Hartigan sealed the deal late on.

The Murrintown outfit beat Ferns United by the same scoreline in Matt Ennis Park on Sunday. Cathal Dowd and Aaron O’Brien got their goals.

Crossabeg AFC finished in a creditable fifth place in the table after a 3-2 win over Bunclody in Church Road on Sunday.

David Berney fired the visitors in front midway through the first-half, but goals either side of the break, from Andrew Kelly and Aaron Dunne, put Bunclody in front.

Barry Coughlan levelled matters with ten minutes remaining and Oran Maddock grabbed the winner deep into injury time.
