What Cambridge site could look like after major redevelopment

New images show what a site on Newmarket Road in Cambridge could look like after redevelopment. Pension fund Railpen has launched a public consultation on the proposals for 230 Newmarket Road ahead of submitting a planning application.

The site will be the next to come forward for redevelopment on Cambridge Retail Park after a new Starbucks is built later this year. The proposals include new shops, offices, 438 cycle parking spaces, and 45 car parking spaces for office occupiers.

They are being developed as part of a “long-term plan to create more reasons to visit Cambridge Retail Park with a wider mix of uses that can attract a good range and quality of retailers to serve the local community”, a Railpen spokesperson said. The current site has three ‘low-quality’ buildings, including an empty floor shop and empty G4S unit.

Matthew Howard, Head of Property at Railpen, said: “We are excited to be working towards the submission of these proposals for 230 Newmarket Road and to discussing our plans with the community at our public exhibition in June. Cambridge Retail Park is not immune to the shift to online shopping, but we are confident that through these plans, as well as future developments, we can create a quality retail park that is sustainable in the long-term and remains in demand for consumers and retailers alike.”

Railpen will hold an in-person drop-in event on Wednesday, June 26, between 4pm and 7.30pm at the former SCS Unit at Cambridge Retail Park. A webinar will be held on June 27 from 12pm with the development team available to discuss the proposals.
