Telling the story of House Targaryen, it stars the likes of Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno and Rhys Ifans.

Season two sees Westeros on the brink of a bloody civil war as the Green and Black Councils fight for King Aegon and Queen Rhaenyra respectively.

New or Returning Shows

Dead Calm: Killing in the Med? 9.00pm, BBC Two

A look at the events surrounding the migrant boat disaster off the coast of Greece in June 2023, when around 600 people were presumed to have died after a trawler overturned.

Accounts of survivors suggested that the Greek coastguard was at fault – but this is something the local authorities strenuously deny.

Archaeology: A Secret History, 9.00pm, BBC Four

Richard Miles charts the history of archaeological breakthroughs in a mission to understand the ancient past.

In the first programme, he explores how the profession began by trying to prove a biblical truth.

Britain’s Pompeii: A Village Lost in Time, 10.00pm, BBC Four

Professor Alice Roberts joins the team excavating a 3,000-year-old Bronze Age village in the Cambridgeshire Fens that burned to the ground and was preserved in peat.

Archaeologists also investigate the cause of the fire. Was it just a terrible accident, or did the villagers’ wealth provoke an attack?

Don’t Miss

Bake Off: The Professionals, 8.00pm, Channel 4

The four best teams from the last round take on pastry week.

In their first challenge, the teams must turn their hand to viennoiserie, and make 18 cross laminated pain Suisse and 24 savoury brioche doughnuts.

For their showpiece challenge, the teams become ring masters of their craft, as they produce a choux showpiece featuring 160 individual choux buns inspired by a circus theme.

No Stone Unturned, 10.35pm, RTÉ One

Another chance to see this rather grim but utterly compelling documentary film.

In 1994, six people were gunned down as they watched Ireland play in the World Cup in a small pub in Loughinisland, country Down.

Decades later, family members looking for answers become increasingly convinced that the truth is being hidden from them.

Football Cops, 10.00pm, Channel 4

After a tepid first episode, last week’s second outing was much more interesting.

This week’s episode looks at the ‘Ing-ger-lend’ international experience.

As England take on Germany in the Nations League, the Football Cops work with German police to stop the drunken revelry getting out of control as England fans enjoy the sunshine and beer.

In Italy, robust policing leaves England fans injured as the British bobbies try to help fans caught in the middle and administer first aid.

And in Malta, the Football Cops turn their attentions to apprehending a known drug dealer.

The Traitors US, 8.00pm, BBC Three

It’s episode five in season two, so still plenty of time to join in the fun if you haven’t already.

Tonight there’s a new arrival at Alan Cumming’s castle in the Scottish Highlands to – hopefully – throw a cat among the pigeons.

Meanwhile, the Faithful have a cunning plan to fight back, and one of the Traitors is in the hot seat.

Stan & Ollie, 11.45pm, BBC One

Great movie – terrible time.

Steve Coogan and John C Reilly star in this hugely enjoyable biopic of Laurel and Hardy, focusing on the events of 1953 as the comedy duo try to re-ignite their film careers by embarking on a gruelling tour of British variety halls.

As they set out on their demanding schedule, with their wives back home in the US, Stan is distracted by his attempts to pin down the producer of their proposed comeback film.

Meanwhile, Ollie tries to heal a rift between them that was caused by a perceived professional betrayal.

The build-up of pressure starts to tarnish their precious partnership.

Live UEFA Euro 2024, 1.30pm, RTÉ2

Streaming on RTÉ Player

First up today is Romania v Ukraine (KO 2.00pm) and Tony O’Donoghue presents coverage of the Group E match from Munich Football Arena.

Romania finished top of their qualifying group ahead of the likes of Switzerland and Israel to make it to this tournament, and are playing in the finals for the first time since 2016.

Three years ago, the Ukraine reached the quarter-finals before they were thoroughly outplayed in a 4-0 defeat to England in Rome.

Then at 4.30pm the attention turns to Belgium v Slovakia (KO 5.00pm), with Tony O’Donoghue presents the Group E match from Frankfurt Arena.

Darragh Maloney, James McClean and Stephen Kelly

Belgium, now under head coach Domenico Tedesco, have reached the quarter-finals at the previous two finals, and haven’t made a final in these championships since 1980, when they lost 2-1 to West Germany.

Slovakian players won the Euros four years before that, back when they were part of Czechoslovakia, beating West Germany on penalties after a 2-2 draw.

From 7.30pm the focus turns to Austria v France (KO 8pm). Peter Collins presents coverage of the Group D match from Dusseldorf Arena, as both teams kick off their campaigns.

Despite reaching the final of the 2022 World Cup and winning in 2018, Didier Deschamps’ France haven’t enjoyed the same success at the Euros in recent years, and lost on penalties to Switzerland in the last 16 three years ago.

This is only Austria’s fourth appearance at this event in their history, and they have yet to make it as far as the quarter-finals.
