WhatsApp is testing an in-app dialer feature to simplify calls

WhatsApp is big on user experience and functionality, which is why it is no surprise that it is currently testing an in-app dialer feature for its Android beta users, which will enhance their calling capabilities.

Per a report from WABetaInfo, the new dialer feature will allow users to make calls directly from the app without saving the numbers in their address book.

Accessing the dialer is also effortless, as a dedicated floating action button now resides within the calls tab. Once you tap the floating action button, a phone keypad appears, which allows you to input phone numbers for immediate calls.

This feature is significant and ideal in situations where you want to quickly connect with your colleagues or clients for brief discussions without saving their numbers. It is also convenient for making one-off calls to customer service or businesses without filling up your contact list with unnecessary entries.

Moving on, the new feature also includes a “Messaging Shortcut,” allowing you to send a message instead of calling, and a “Saving Contacts” option, allowing you to save the dialed number as a new contact or as part of an existing contact card.

WhatsApp Announces Major Upgrades to Improve Video Calling Experience

Meta has promised that the new features will be rolling out to users over the next few weeks.

According to WhatsApp, one of the reasons behind this new development is to enhance the user experience by eliminating the need to switch between apps for calls and to streamline communication workflows.

The in-app dialer feature is being rolled out to some beta users who have the latest version of WhatsApp beta for Android (v2 24.13.17). However, WhatsApp hasn’t confirmed when it will make the feature available officially to its over 2.78 billion users globally, per data from Verloop.io.

On a separate note, WhatsApp earlier announced major upgrades to improve the video calling experience for users, which is an added benefit for maximum utilization on the platform.
