When England will play in knockout phases and potential opponents after winning Group C

After a worrying start to the tournament, England has still managed to finish at the top of group C.

Gareth Southgate promised us an improvement on England’s shaky start to Euro 2024 – and that’s what we kind of got.

The national team took on Slovenia this evening (25 June) and while looking to take more control of the game, we couldn’t convert our chances, or make any.

The game finished 0-0, with the closest opportunity falling to Bukayo Saka, who netted a tap-in assisted by an offside Phil Foden in the first half.

That being said, by beating Serbia by 1-0 in their opening tie, followed by a worrying 1-1 against Denmark last week, England fans will be relieved to make it to the last 16.

England’s Euro 2024 route

As group C winners, England will face off against the third-placed side in either group D/E/F at Arena AufSchalke, Gelsenkirchen on Sunday (30 June).

The 5pm kick off could see the Lions play the Netherlands, who finished in third place in group D.

However, groups E and F are yet to be determined.

In group E, all four teams – Romania, Belgium, Slovakia and Ukraine -are currently on three points, so we could play any of them.

Meanwhile in group F, consisting of Portugal on six points, Turkey on three points, Czechia on one point, and Georgia on one point, we could face every team.

Though Cristiano Ronaldo’s side, along with Turkey, are expected to take the first two spots.

Now, if we hopefully make it to the quarterfinals, it would be Switzerland or Italy who would await in Dusseldorf on Saturday 6 July at 5pm.

Then in the semi-finals on either 9 or 10 of July, it could be any of Hungary, Romania, or Turkey, which sounds pretty good.

Assuming that football is coming home and we do get to the final on 14 July, then we only have the likes of France, Germany, Portugal and Spain to get past.

While that might sound like some task, to win the big trophies you have to beat the big teams.

England fans praised for behaviour so far

While England fans may have developed a bad rep over the years, it seems that Police in Gelsenkirchen and Frankfurt have been impressed by their behaviour so far.

“Around 10,000 England fans gathered in Cologne last night, Monday June 24,” the UK Football Policing Unit said in a statement.

“There were no reports of disorder and no arrests of any England fans were made.

“This is indicative of what we have seen across Germany so far, with the vast majority of England fans behaving extremely well.”
