When was Texas A&M’s last national title in baseball, football or basketball?

Texas A&M is looking to make a little history in Omaha Monday night in Game 3 of the College World Series Finals. Of course, both the Aggies and Tennessee are looking for their first-ever baseball national championship.

The Aggies have been to eight College World Series — including in two of the last three seasons — but this is the first time A&M reached the best-of-three Finals. Game time is 6 p.m. CT on ESPN.

What about some of the Aggies’ other top sports — when was their last national championship?

Well, the basketball program is in the same boat with baseball, no championships (yet, at least for baseball). The basketball team has been in 16 NCAA Tournaments — including the last two — but has never advanced past the Sweet 16. The Aggies have made six Sweet 16 appearances, with their last in 2018.

The women’s basketball team has fared better, winning the national championship in 2011. The team has made 18 NCAA tourneys, nine Sweet 16s, reached the Elite Eight three times and the Final Four once, when they won it all.

The football team also won a national title, but there aren’t many who were alive to see it happen. Coach Homer Norton’s 1937 team beat Tulane in the Sugar Bowl to cap off a perfect 11-0 season, earning the national championship.

The equestrian team has enjoyed the most national championship success among all Aggie programs, winning 12 national titles, all from 2002 to 2017. Men’s track and field has five, women’s track and field four, football claims three–though the NCAA doesn’t recognize 1927–softball also has three and men’s golf and women’s tennis –which just happened in 2024–have one each.
