Why Can’t Men Get Jobs?  | NewsRadio 740 KTRH

The number of men in the workplace is trending down. The employment rate of men aged 25-54 went from 95% in the ’50s and ’60s down to around 85% today. The reason? Some men can’t get jobs, and others just don’t want to.

Maya Ratcliff, the founder of Hawaii Fluid Arts, told KTRH, “When unemployment is easier to obtain, and there are a lot of other governmental benefits, I think that some people take the easy road.”

Ratcliff also says that self-employment and the gig economy could be factors behind the growth of men’s unemployment. She said, “They may still be gainfully employed, but it’s not being shown in the employment records because they’re not working for a major employer.”

Ratcliff says that if you’re currently struggling to find work, make sure you’ve got a well-written and detailed resume.
