Why you should wear red while flying on planes – it’ll mean a pleasant journey
TRAVEL experts say the best colour to wear when you’re travelling on a plane is red, as it will mean you have a more pleasant flight.
While most people will think about putting on a comfy outfit for their flight, not so many will consider what colour they should be wearing.
Wearing red can make for a much more pleasant journey, according to the travel blog Airplane Tips, which shares top tips about flying.
Red is a powerful and stimulating colour that can give you the edge when going through security and grabbing the attention of flight attendants, according to research.
The colour red stands out among other hues which could mean you get preferential treatment onboard.
As red stands out, the person wearing the colour will be more noticeable and memorable to airline staff.
A study was conducted by researchers at the University of Potsdam in Germany, along with collaborators in the US and Munich.
Women who wore read were perceived to be more attractive than women who did not, the research revealed.
Not only is red good for being attractive but it can also mean the difference between winning and losing.
Researchers at the University of Durham found that sports teams that wore red kits were more likely to win than those that didn’t.
With red being easily noticeable it is associated with dominance and power.
So passengers may want to wear something fashionable in red to be more noticed and ensure you are noticed by the airplane’s crew.
Airplane Tips writes: “Airline staff may subconsciously perceive passengers in red as more important or of higher status, leading to enhanced customer service experiences.
“So, if you want to receive top-notch treatment during your travels, consider incorporating red into your airport attire.”
Although, it also warns that while red has positive connotations, you shouldn’t force the colour on yourself.
It added: “It’s important to note that while red can have a positive impact on how others perceive you, it’s always essential to dress comfortably and appropriately for your journey.
“Experiment with incorporating red accents or accessories into your airport outfit to take advantage of the psychological benefits this vibrant colour offers.”
While red might be the fashionable choice to opt for, there are some items of clothing the experts recommend not to wear on a plane journey.
The right outfit selection can make all the difference to a person’s comfort on their flight, yet a lot of people aren’t aware of it.
Be it the wrong trousers, or a poor choice of footwear, passengers make simple mistakes that could leave them struggling to settle in their seats, especially on long-haul journeys.
That’s why travel experts at Conde Nast Traveller revealed how they “dress strategically” to make sure their clothes aren’t stopping them from getting comfortable.
Firstly, they recommend not wearing “stiff jeans” during lengthy journeys.
Airlines with the best plane food
Korean Air
Korean Air won best airline cuisine in last year’s Global Traveler’s awards.
Some of their popular dishes onboard include bibimbap, a Korean rice dish, and ssambap, Korean rice lettuce rolls.
It also made the top 10 for airlines with the best plane food in CN Travelers 2023 Readers’ Choice Awards.
Japan Airlines
Coming in first place in the Reader’s Choice Awards was Japan Airlines.
The airline has partnered with six Michelin-star chefs, each of whom have three stars – so you can expect it to be good.
Passengers can choose bento boxes and miso soups onboard.
Singapore Airlines
Often voted one of the best airlines in the world, it is no surprising Singapore Airlines is said to have some of the best plane food.
Chef Dennis Littley said: “Their gourmet meals rival those of ground-based restaurants.”
Dishes include congee, a rice porridge, as well as Singaporean rice and curry options.
Old sweatpants are also a no-go, even if they’re comfortable.
Instead, passengers should look into wearing leggings and a jacket, or loungewear sets.
The other clothing mistake that passengers regularly make on flights is to wear trainers, or shoes that don’t slip on and off easily.
In particular, footwear with laces on are fiddly, especially for people who remove their shoes during flights.
A “lightweight slip-on shoe” is Conde’s shoe of choice for long-haul flights.
Sun Travel’s resident flight attendant explained exactly how people should dress when travelling through an airport.
They said: “You should avoid belts, jackets with complicated buckles or zips and shoes that are hard to remove.
“You want to get through the gates as soon as possible, or everyone else in the line will become very infuriated with you.
“Make sure you pack your bag easily as well, with electronic items and toiletries on top, so they’re easy to remove.
“Passengers will hate you if you spend ages unpacking and re-packing your luggage.”
