Staffing crisis has hit providers of care to children with complex needs with 356 on waiting list in north Wicklow

A mother who has been waiting for physiotherapy sessions for her seven-year-old son who had surgery to correct a dislocated hip three years ago has said it is “an absolute disgrace” that the family’s ordeal has gone on so long. It comes as 356 children are on a waitlist for similar services in north Wicklow.

There was huge relief for Jennifer Brown, a mother-of-four, from Kilcoole, when her son, Lewis, who has spina bifida, received what was potentially life-altering surgery in 2021, giving him more independence and comfort – and much less pain.
