Wicklow TD Jennifer Whitmore recovering in hospital after medical emergency

The Delgany woman was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance and admitted to the ICU earlier this week. Thankfully, her condition is said to have improved significantly since, but the mother-of-four will remain in the hospital for a few more days and then undergo a recovery period before resuming work.

Ms Whitmore’s medical emergency came after a long weekend spent at the Wicklow local election count in Greystones, where she was supporting her Social Democrats colleagues, including Danny Alvey, Mark Barry and Caroline Winstanley, all of whom were elected, and candidates Aaron McAllorum and Deirdre McCormack.

Describing the “surreal” events of the past few days, Deputy Whitmore’s husband Tony Duddy turned to social media to provide an update on her condition and thank St Vincent’s staff for their rapid actions and outstanding care.

“It’s been a surreal few days, after the excitement of last weekend’s elections,” he began.

“We had a bit of a fright Monday where Jennifer experienced a sudden medical emergency, and I had to call the ambulance. She is still in St Vincent’s Hospital and will be there for another few days, at least.

“She is doing much better, but there will be a recovery period, where she will be easing herself back to work.

“It’s great that we have the summer coming up, but it’s things like this that remind us what is important in life.

“A huge thank you to the incredible staff at St Vincent’s for their speedy intervention, particularly in the ICU,” he continued.

“The very genuine care that we have experienced over the last few days has really touched us.

“Jennifer’s office continues to operate as normal, but anything requiring Jennifer directly will be slow. Apologies in advance for this. Anything urgent outside of the office, please feel free to message me in the interim.”

In reaction to the shocking post, Whitmore’s friends, supporters, business owners, community groups and political colleagues from across Wicklow and beyond wished her a speedy recovery, including newly re-elected Bray Councillor Aoife Flynn Kennedy and the Green Party’s Catherine Martin TD and Francis Noel Duffy TD.

“So sorry to hear this Jennifer Whitmore TD – take your time to heal and recuperate,” one commenter wrote.

“You do such amazing work for your community, so it’s imperative you put the same dedication into feeling well again. Wishing you a speedy recovery.”

“So sorry to hear this Jennifer, your health and family are all that matter right now, the rest can and will wait,” another said, while one commenter reiterated the community’s supporter, writing: “Her health is more important than anything else. The community is here for you and the family if there is anything you need”.
