Willie Mullins sells three horses including gelding tipped for Cheltenham

Willie Mullins sold three horses on an online auction on Tuesday for a total of over €50,000, including one tipped for a Cheltenham Festival target.

The Closutton maestro has started using ThoroughBid, an online bloodstock auction house, to sell some of his horses in recent years.

And there were some potential bargains to be had in ThoroughBid’s June Sale. The top lot was What Path, who won two times over hurdles for Mullins and now looks set for a chasing career.

The seven-year-old gelding was sold to bloodstock agent and former jockey Jerry McGrath for £27,000 (€32,000). Stablemates We’llhavewan (£11,000) and Cadoudal Saint (£9,000) also sold well for Team Mullins.

Commenting on the sale, Willie’s son Patrick Mullins said: “We were delighted to get all horses sold today, particularly at prices that I should think both vendors and buyers would be happy with.

“What Path has a lot of potential going forward as a chaser, while Cadoudal Saint has youth on his side and could win plenty of races, but I think We’llhavewan might be the best value buy. He’s the sort of horse that could easily be competitive in some of those valuable staying chases and maybe get to Cheltenham as a Pertemps horse.
