Fritz completes the comeback
Wowzers.
Fritz was two sets down to Zverev.
But he has rattled off the next three sets to complete a stunning 4-6 6-7 6-4 7-6 6-3 victory in three-and-a-half hours.
That is the third time Fritz has come from two sets to win in his career.
Lorenzo Musetti awaits in the quarter-finals…
Elina on Russian participation
Ukrainian star Elina Svitolina would rather Russian and Belarusian athletes were still banned from playing at Wimbledon.
Following her 6-2 6-1 win over Wang Xinyu, the 29-year-old said: “Of course, I would prefer that. But it is how it is now. I cannot change. We tried every possible way to talk with many organisations.
“For now I just want to raise awareness, to raise funds for people in need, to raise support for the kids through my foundation, through United24. So many ways we can help people and not only focus on the things we cannot control.”
Elina Svitolina’s emotional interview
Ukrainian Elina Svitolina broke down in tears on court after beating Wang Xinyu to reach the Wimbledon quarter-finals, less than a day on from Russia’s latest devastating attack on Kyiv.
Svitolina, 29, received special approval from the All England Club to wear a black ribbon on her Wimbledon whites in honour of those who were killed in Ukraine last night.
Russia’s horrifying blitz included a hypersonic missile striking a children’s hospital in Kyiv.
At least 32 people were killed in Vladimir Putin’s latest evil attack.
Amid the horrors going on back home, Odesa-born Svitolina took on Chinese star Wang on No2 Court for a place in the Wimbledon quarter-finals.
The former world No3 produced an excellent performance to win 6-2 6-1 in just 56 minutes.
Taylor Fritz on comeback trail
American star Taylor Fritz could be about to complete a sensational comeback from two sets down!
The 13th seed trailed Alexander Zverev 6-4 7-6 on Centre Court.
He has come roaring back, however, winning the following two sets 6-4 7-6.
He now lead Zverev 3-1 in the fifth, leaving the German on the ropes.
Former Wimbledon champion gives birth
Petra Kvitova has become a mother aged 34.
The 2011 and 2014 Wimbledon champion has announced that she yesterday gave birth to a baby boy named Petr.
Kvitova was last in action at the China Open last October, and reached the fourth round of Wimbledon 12 months ago.
Ostapenko sails through
What a performance that was from Ostapenko.
She continues her scintillating form at this year’s Wimbledon by crushing Putintseva 6-2 6-3 in just 68 minutes.
Ostapenko has dropped just 15 games in four matches at an average of 61 minutes per match. Wow.
