Wimbledon 2024 LIVE: Tennis scores as Novak Djokovic battles Lorenzo Musetti with Carlos Alcaraz in final

The Wimbledon’s men’s semi-finals have arrived, as Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz edge closer to a rematch of last year’s final – an instant classic.

Alcaraz triumphed over five intense sets last summer to collect his first trophy in SW19 and booked his return to the final after coming from a set down to defeat the fifth seed Daniil Medvedev in a near-repeat of last year’s semi-finals. Although Alcaraz, 21, this time lost the opening set on a tiebreak, the Spaniard recovered to outclass Medvedev and win 6-7 6-3 6-4 6-4.

Djokovic, 37, will play Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti, 22, who won a thrilling quarter-final against Taylor Fritz, after Djokovic received a walkover when Alex de Minaur sustained an injury. Therefore, today is Djokovic’s first time on court since he lashed out at fans for “booing” him in the fourth round.

Wimbledon 2024: Novak Djokovic 6-4 6-6 Lorenzo Musetti*

18:59 , Mike Jones

Wow. That’s another Musetti masterclass. This one is a drilled, stretching forehand that comes flying down the line. It clips the line and brings him his first point in this tie break.

Djokovic doesn’t panic. He takes the next point from his own serve before a hold for Musetti makes it 4-2.

Wimbledon 2024: *Novak Djokovic 6-4 6-6 Lorenzo Musetti

18:56 , Mike Jones

Novak Djokovic takes the first point with a wide serve that Musetti knocks too long. The Italian needs to keep in touch with his opponent but Djokovic is a force of nature.

He forces Musetti behind the baseline and leaves a looping return alone as it drops out of play. A miscued backhand from Musetti – who tries to lob Djokovic – goes wide and he’s now 3-0 down in the tie break.

And it’s Djokovic’s time to serve.

Wimbledon 2024: Novak Djokovic 6-4 6-6 Lorenzo Musetti

18:54 , Mike Jones

A cross court forehand winner brings Musetti the first point in a game he needs to hold. The crowd recognise the moment too and give him a huge cheer.

The duo then engage in a lengthy rally. Neither gets the advantage from a forehand battle so Djokovic switches things up, Musetti responds with a few backhand slices but then lifts a forehand over the back of court. 15-15.

Cheers again. Musetti gets Djokovic running up and down the court. A slice drop shot brings the Serb forward before Musetti lobs him with a volley. He manages to get that one back too but the Italian lands a smash in play and takes the lead!

Djokovic and Musetti trade blows and get to deuce. The Italian squeezes into the lead before Djokovic drills a forehand out of play!

Massive hold and this set is going to a tie break.

Wimbledon 2024: Novak Djokovic 6-4 6-5 Lorenzo Musetti*

18:46 , Mike Jones

Novak Djokovic looks for a driving volley as a loopy return from Musetti comes over the net. He miscues it and fizzes the ball into the tape before it lands on his own side of court.

The next rally goes against him as well. A wayward forehand is sent too long and Djokovic finds himself 0-30 down.

Yet, a wonderful serve lands on the centre line to get him a point on the board, he then drills a serve out wide for an ace and he’s back in the game.

Another ace puts him ahead and Musetti has had no chance at any of those returns.

Rinse and repeat. Ace, hold of serve. Incredible stuff.

Wimbledon 2024: *Novak Djokovic 6-4 5-5 Lorenzo Musetti

18:43 , Mike Jones

Well Lorenzo Musetti didn’t feel any pressure there. A rapid hold of serve keeps him level in the set.

Wimbledon 2024: Novak Djokovic 6-4 5-4 Lorenzo Musetti*

18:39 , Mike Jones

For all his great play, Djokovic is having a tough time out there. Every missed shot or slight error is causing him anguish, he looks annoyed again when sending a backhand into the net to gift Musetti a point.

From the next rally a forehand down the line is quick and sharp but the Italian gets across. He looks for the backhand return and finds the net.

An attempted backhand slice then drifts out of play and leaves Djokovic on the verge of another hold. He forces Musetti back and comes up to the net.

An overhead smash is sent straight at the Italian who gets a racket to the ball but his return goes high and wide. Djokovic holds.

Wimbledon 2024: *Novak Djokovic 6-4 4-4 Lorenzo Musetti

18:34 , Mike Jones

Both players exchange points to move this game to 15-15. Musetti sends a serve over to Djokovic’s forehand but it’s a wide one and the Serb can’t get there.

He manages to hook a backhand return across court in the next rally and Musetti can only send one over the baseline. 30-30.

Musetti then misses the box with his first serve but the second clips the centre line and forces Djokovic to go long. The Italian holds thanks to a Djokovic miss!

Wimbledon 2024: Novak Djokovic 6-4 4-3 Lorenzo Musetti*

18:30 , Mike Jones

It might have been a touch demoralising for Musetti to see his break clawed back. He engages Djokovic in a rally of slices but sends a forehand over the back.

Djokovic yells out in celebration. He recognises how important these points are.

Another couple of errors from Musetti gives Djokovic the game. He’s won seven of the last eight points and now leads in the set.

Wimbledon 2024: *Novak Djokovic 6-4 3-3 Lorenzo Musetti – BREAK

18:26 , Mike Jones

Oh chance.

Musetti is getting pushed around the court and Djokovic is trying to press an advantage. Both men are drawn to the net, Djokovic attempts the lob, Musetti gets to it but volleys a backhand out of play.

Djokovic then pings a return of play to the baseline and moves 0-40 in front. Three break points for him.

Wow. An inside out forehand return of serve flies across court and beats Musetti. Djokovic takes the game and is back level in the set.

Wimbledon 2024: Novak Djokovic 6-4 2-3 Lorenzo Musetti*

18:21 , Mike Jones

Djokovic is in command though. Musetti’s defence is superb which is a big reason he’s managing to win rallies but Djokovic has stepped things up a gear.

He’s hitting with power and placement, dictating where Musetti can hit to. At least that’s when he’s playing well. There’s too many errors creeping into his play as a backhand finds the net.

He shakes his head at 30-30 and looks up to the sky. From this position though, Djokovic digs in, two quick serves bring two quick points.

Djokovic holds.

Wimbledon 2024: *Novak Djokovic 6-4 1-3 Lorenzo Musetti

18:18 , Mike Jones

Lorenzo Musetti is playing on Centre Court for the first time. He needs to win this set to keep in contention in this match and is already up a break. Can he hold his nerve and his serve?

So far so good. He take the first point with a backhand passing winner before utilising the slice as a defensive measure as Novak Djokovic pushes a forehand wide of the line to give away the next point.

Another wayward strike from Djokovic sends Musetti 40-0 and the Italian messes up a forced approach to the net. He gets a half-volley flick over but then hits the next forehand into the net.

No! You cannot do that. Djokovic has Musetti running both sides of the court with accurate shots to the corners. The Italian scurries across and whips a backhand cross court winner past Djokovic and claims the game. Wow.

Wimbledon 2024: Novak Djokovic 6-4 1-2 Lorenzo Musetti*

18:13 , Kieran Jackson

Another nip-and-tuck game reaches 30-30 – and a change in tactic from Djokovic, as he serves and volleys with success!

He closes out the game with a backhand winner down the line!

Wimbledon 2024: *Novak Djokovic 6-4 0-2 Lorenzo Musetti

18:10 , Kieran Jackson

Big hold for Musetti as he saves two break points!

From 30-0 to 30-40 as Djokovic outlasts his opponent, but Musetti saves break point with an accurate serve out wide.

Djokovic goes long on forehand at deuce but Musetti does the same with an ambitious running forehand!

Musetti then saves another break point with a big serve out wide but can’t seal the game at the next chance as Djokovic rips a forehand cross court!

Wimbledon 2024: *Novak Djokovic 6-4 0-1 Lorenzo Musetti*

18:00 , Kieran Jackson

Wimbledon 2024: *Novak Djokovic 6-4 Lorenzo Musetti

17:53 , Kieran Jackson

Djokovic wins another lengthy point to open up the game with a backhand winner before Musetti nets a slice.

0-30 – and the Italian double faults! Three set points for the Serb – Musetti saves the first with a neat drop shot and pass into the open court.

But another drop shot hits the net and Djokovic takes the first set, 6-4!

Ah Musetti will be kicking himself having done so well to get back in it!

Wimbledon 2024: Novak Djokovic 5-4 Lorenzo Musetti*

17:50 , Alex Pattle

Now Djokovic will serve for the first set. A competitive rally ends with a forehand winner down the line from Musetti! He was leaning back, off-balance, but made it anyway… 0-15.

Djokovic gets to 15-15 with a tidy, high forehand volley – not quite a smash.

Now Musetti misses with a forehand pass, getting it badly wrong when he should have kept it in court. Good pressure from Djokovic, though! 30-15.

Musetti slices a backhand into the net, and Djokovic has double set point at 40-15…

Out! Djokovic with a forehand up the line, but it’s narrowly wide… One set point gone.

And there goes the second! Nole is pushed into the corner, where he can only lob a defensive backhand out of play. Deuce.

Another forehand miss from Djokovic, this time crosscourt! Break point to Musetti, against the odds…

Gets it! A forehand winner up the line and into the corner! Wow.

Musetti stays in touch at 15-30, then forces an error out of a sprinting Djokovic. 30-30.

Djokovic gets back in front at 30-15, as Musetti runs to reach a volley by the Serb, eventually slinging a passing shot long.

40-15, as Musetti tries to pass Djokovic with a backhand but fires wide.

Wow! Musetti apologises after saving one game point with a wicked service return, a lacerating slice. He’s suggesting it wasn’t entirely intentional, that drop shot! 40-30.

But a great serve seals the hold.

Wimbledon 2024: Novak Djokovic* 4-2 Lorenzo Musetti

17:33 , Alex Pattle

0-15. Musetti offers some impressive defence as Djokovic wrongfoots him then sends down a smash, but the second overhead beats the underdog.

0-30 now, and a window for Djokovic to break, as Musetti skews an inside-out forehand wide.

0-40, triple break point! Djokovic slices his way to the net, then just about makes an awkward overhead, before putting away a tidy volley.

One break point saved, as Djokovic errs on a groundstroke.

A great rally ensues, the best of the match, and Djokovic wins it with a volley that lands just inside the baseline – right at Musetti’s feet!

The Serb motions to the crowd to give him some love. He’s earned it there! He breaks.

Lovely backhand winner up the line from Musetti, after the net cord slows Djokovic’s shot and gives his opponent time to take proper aim. 40-30.

But there’s the hold, as Djokovic’s serve is too much for Musetti.

The Carlos Alcaraz experience – and why it is so effective as Spaniard reaches second Wimbledon final

17:13 , Kieran Jackson on Centre Court

The common courtesy of an apology to the opponent in a moment of fortune is fairly unique to tennis. You rarely see a hand up in one’s regrets for a fortuitously shinned shot into the goal; nor for a shanked golf drive rebounding off the trees and onto the fairway. Perhaps it’s the sport’s genuine adversarial nature which affords this refreshing sign of affability in the heat of battle. Do they mean it? Who knows – but the simple hand signal is enough.

Intriguingly, it is also an unorthodox indicator of what it means to watch, and face, Carlos Alcaraz. A player so unpredictable in his shot selection and rhythm that, in the 57-minute first set of his Wimbledon semi-final against Daniil Medvedev, he raised his hand in apology five times. A few net cords here, a few framed groundstrokes there, in a set he eventually lost. Yet the intoxicating Spaniard’s greatest weakness is also his greatest strength.

Spellbinding lunacy: welcome to another episode of the Carlos Alcaraz experience

Wimbledon 2024: Novak Djokovic vs Lorenzo Musetti

16:59 , Jamie Braidwood on Centre Court

Novak Djokovic returns to Centre Court for the first time since turning on the Wimbledon crowd after that win against Holger Rune. With plenty of empty seats after Carlos Alcaraz won in four sets, I’d say that was a warm, if gentle, ovation for the players as they came out for their warm-ups.

Wimbledon 2024: Novak Djokovic vs Lorenzo Musetti

16:53 , Alex Pattle

The second semi-final will begin shortly, as Novak Djokovic faces Lorenzo Musetti.

Djokovic is eyeing a second straight final against Alcaraz, who beat the seven-time champion in five sets last year.

If Djokovic, 37, can reach and win the final, he will tie Roger Federer on a record eight Wimbledon titles in the Open Era.

But Musetti provides an interesting test. The 22-year-old Italian won a back-and-forth five-setter with Taylor Fritz to reach the semi-finals, and he has history with Djokovic.

Musetti has only beaten the Serb once, but he has taken him to five sets in two grand-slam meetings – coming up short both times, but pushing Nole close, and as recently as the French Open this spring.

An added layer will be Djokovic’s dynamic with the crowd; after beating Holger Rune in the fourth round, Djokovic complained that the crowd had been booing him.

He acknowledged that the fans were chanting “Ruuuuuune”, but insisted they were using it as a means of jeering him, too…

Today will be Djokovic’s first time on court since that episode, and since he walked out of an interview with the BBC over the matter; his quarter-final never went ahead, as Alex de Minaur withdrew due to injury.

Wimbledon 2024: Carlos Alcaraz 6-7 6-3 6-4 6-4 Daniil Medvedev – GAME, SET & MATCH!

16:47 , Alex Pattle

Alcaraz: “First of all, I’m glad to play outdoors, different conditions! I’m really happy about my performance today.

“He was dominating the match, playing great tennis with his serves, his return game. It was difficult for me, but I tried to pull out all the nerves at the beginning of the second set.

“It was really helpful to be up 3-1, and after that, I could play my own game and enjoy the match a little bit more. I moved pretty well.

“I tried to do different things, I tried not to play long rallies, I tried to hit slices, drop shots, go the net as much as I could. I tried not to play his game, but obviously there were a few points where there were really long rallies.”

On playing his second straight final here: “I feel like I’m not new anymore, I know how I’m gonna feel before the final, I’ve been in this position before. I will try to do the things that I did well last year and try to be better.

“But it’s gonna be a really good day for the Spanish as well, you know, with the Euros.”

That brings playful boos! But the Spaniard clarifies with a smile: “I didn’t say Spain’s gonna win [against England], I’m just saying it’s gonna be a really fun day!”

It’s not looking great for Medvedev right now.

Alcaraz with an attempted tweener lob in the opening game, but Medvedev steadies to get the hold. There was just the one break point in that second set, which should give Medvedev a bit of a boost. There wasn’t much in it, on paper.

Alcaraz wins the first point with a big serve down the middle but then coughs up a double-fault. A chance for Medvedev? He attacks from inside the baseline and Alcaraz floats a slice long… it’s 15-30.

Brilliant from Alcaraz, moving in on the forehand and running around it to put the winner past Medvedev. As proof of his improving level, he then finds the ace out wide to take the hold. He moves one game away.

The way the match is going, too, suggests Alcaraz could run away with this in the third and fourth. He’s responded so well to losing that tiebreak.

Wimbledon 2024: Carlos Alcaraz 2-4 Daniil Medvedev* – BREAK!

Alcaraz responds by holding to love with Medvedev, who has a reputation for being so solid from the baseline, putting a couple of backhands long. The Russian’s return position is usually so deep and it will be interesting to see how he adjusts it today, given how strong Alcaraz is at drop-shots.

Comfortable so far for Alcaraz.

Alcaraz’s return goes long against the second serve, and on game point Medvedev thinks he has the hold as he stands over a backhand at the net.

Somehow, though, Alcaraz finds the backhand pass down the line. Deuce. Another ripping backhand winner from Alcaraz, and he then places a forehand past Medvedev!

Break point: but Alcaraz fires long with Medvedev pushed behind the baseline! Medvedev, finally, gets away with the hold as he finds a couple of good serves and Alcaraz goes wide on the backhand.

Meet Lorenzo Musetti, the humble Italian eyeing Wimbledon final after beating Taylor Fritz

13:03 , Kieran Jackson

Prior to his first Grand Slam quarter-final against Taylor Fritz on Wednesday at Wimbledon, Lorenzo Musetti was asked about the important topics at hand: his tattoos. The 22-year-old has three. The first is a heart with a tennis racket in the middle, the second is a ship’s anchor with “family” written on it and the third is a phrase shared with his coach: “Il meglio deve ancora venire.”

It translates: “The best is yet to come.”

Jasmine Paolini defeats crestfallen Donna Vekic in record-breaking Wimbledon semi-final

12:45 , Kieran Jackson

As a 57th and final unforced error sprung off Donna Vekic’s forehand and into the tramline, Jasmine Paolini ran towards her player box in complete and utter euphoria. This year’s breakthrough star on the tennis tour – that goes for men and women – has reached a second Grand Slam final in a matter of weeks. At the end of this titanic battle, she blew a kiss to her corner and then consoled her heartbroken opponent.

As the old adage goes, it felt cruel that somebody had to lose. Both Vekic and Paolini were contesting their first semi-final at Wimbledon and their desperation to reach Saturday’s showpiece was writ large throughout this absorbing battle of wills. In the end, only a first-to-10 final-set tie-break could separate them – and even then, there was barely a flip of a coin between them. Match of the tournament? Possibly so.

Henry Patten wins British battle with Neal Skupski to reach men’s doubles final

12:14 , Kieran Jackson

Henry Patten won the battle of Britain against Neal Skupski in the men’s doubles to reach his first grand slam final at Wimbledon.

Patten had never previously gone beyond the third round at a major tournament but he and Finnish partner Harri Heliovaara have been on a giant-killing run at the All England Club.

That continued on Court One on Thursday as they defeated Skupski, who won the title last year with former partner Wesley Koolhof, and New Zealander Michael Venus 6-4 7-6 (1).

Patten, 28, said: “It feels pretty good. I am not sure it has quite set in. Even when Harri struck that return down the line, moments afterwards I don’t think it had hit us. Neither of us realised what had happened. It’s amazing.”

John McEnroe backs Novak Djokovic in spat with Wimbledon fans

11:30 , Kieran Jackson

John McEnroe believes Novak Djokovic had every right to take a swipe at the Centre Court crowd at Wimbledon.

Djokovic claimed some spectators disrespected him during his straight-sets win over Holger Rune on Monday night by repeatedly chanting the young Dane’s surname.

During a heated on-court interview, the seven-time champion said: “Well, to all the fans that had respect and stayed here tonight thank you very much from the bottom of my heart, I appreciate it.

“And to all those people that have chosen to disrespect the player, in this case me, have a gooooood night. Gooood night, gooood night. Very good night.”

Three-time champion McEnroe, who had his fair share of run-ins with crowds during his colourful career, revealed he would have told Djokovic “well done” for calling out the spectators.

How Novak Djokovic finally embraced the role of Wimbledon’s pantomime villain

11:00 , Jamie Braidwood

In the aftermath of last year’s Wimbledon final, it was tempting to wonder if Novak Djokovic’s defeat to Carlos Alcaraz signalled the start of a change. Bidding for a fifth Wimbledon title in a row, Djokovic was beaten in an epic five-set battle in his first defeat at the Championships since 2017.

As he contemplated the end of his dominance at the All England Club, Djokovic was gracious, his praise of the young Alcaraz glowing and genuine. After so many victories, it was a little startling to see such a fierce competitor embracing the rare taste of defeat like an old friend, reflecting an attitude of “win some, lose some” in front of the Centre Court crowd.

But rather than marking the shift towards a more mutually appreciative relationship, the opposite has occurred.

Wimbledon 2024: Lorenzo Musetti learning lessons ahead of Novak Djokovic clash

10:45 , Jamie Braidwood

Lorenzo Musetti on facing Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon:

“I played him many times in different stages, even big ones like of course two times in French Open. I beat him one time, then lost all the others.

“I have to say, with Nole, after the match I always finished with a lesson. Of course, the last match was really an intense match from both players and really stressful match.

“So what I have to say, against him you are probably more stressed because he’s probably the best player ever or one of the best players ever.

“You walk on court with a different mentality. But, I think if I play in a certain way, I could have my shot in the next round.”

Novak Djokovic meets Lorenzo Musetti again as he eyes another Wimbledon final

10:15 , Jamie Braidwood

The last time Novak Djokovic faced Lorenzo Musetti it took the 24-time grand slam champion until after 3am to get rid of him.

On Thursday Djokovic renews his battle with the Italian who went toe-to-toe with him at the French Open last month, with their five-set marathon providing the latest finish in Roland Garros history.

Wimbledon’s 11pm curfew means Djokovic, who suffered a torn meniscus in his following match in Paris which left his participation here hanging by a thread, will at least be spared another graveyard shift.

The seven-time champion received a bye into the last four after Alex De Minaur had to withdraw from their quarter-final through injury.

That gave Djokovic three free days to prepare for his record-equalling 13th Wimbledon semi-final, and also delayed another date with the Centre Court crowd he accused of disrespecting him by using fourth-round opponent Holger Rune’s surname as an “excuse to boo”.

But Djokovic could be in for another tough afternoon if the spectators decide yelling ‘Moooo-setti’ can wind the Serbian up as much as ‘Roooon’ did on Monday night.

Musetti, 22, who beat Taylor Fritz in five sets to reach his first grand slam semi-final, certainly has the sort of inventive game that will charm the Centre Court patrons.

Jasmine Paolini has surprised herself by reaching back-to-back grand slam finals

10:00 , Jamie Braidwood

Jasmine Paolini admitted that if anyone had told her two months ago she would be in the Wimbledon final, she would think they were “crazy”.

Paolini, the 28-year-old seventh seed, won a Centre Court classic of a semi-final against Donna Vekic 2-6 6-4 7-6 (10/8) after a nerve-shredding match tie-break.

At two hours and 51 minutes it was the longest women’s semi-final in Wimbledon history, and at the end of it Paolini became the first Italian woman to reach the final, where she will face Barbora Krejcikova.

It is a remarkable run from a player who had not won a Tour-level match on grass until 15 days ago, in Eastbourne, and had lost in the first round in her only previous three visits to SW19.

“You are crazy, I would say, yes,” she said. “Yeah, I don’t have words. Just, yeah, you are crazy.

“Two grand slam finals in a row was crazy to believe, I think, no? I’m also surprising how at the moment, until now in this moment, I’m living this.

“I feel maybe Saturday I will be so nervous, I don’t know. But I feel also relaxed. I’m the same person. I’m doing the same things. Yeah, I don’t know. I’m surprised a little bit how I’m managing this.”

Emotional Barbora Krejcikova makes Jana Novotna tribute after reaching final

09:45 , Jamie Braidwood

Barbora Krejcikova was inspired by the memory of her mentor Jana Novotna as she battled back to beat former champion Elena Rybakina and reach her first Wimbledon singles final.

Krejcikova, winner of the French Open in 2021 but never previously beyond the fourth round here, claimed a 3-6 6-3 6-4 victory on Centre Court to set up a surprise final against Jasmine Paolini.

She will now hope to follow in the footsteps of her fellow Czech Marketa Vondrousova, who became the first unseeded winner of the women’s singles here 12 months ago, while Rybakina’s defeat guarantees an eighth different champion in eight years.

Novotna famously cried on the shoulder of the Duchess of Kent after losing the 1993 final against Steffi Graf from a winning position before finally lifting the trophy five years later.

She took a teenage Krejcikova under her wing but died of cancer in 2017 aged only 49.

Krejcikova became emotional when taking about Novotna in her post-match interview, saying: “I’m thinking about Jana a lot. I have so many beautiful memories and, when I step on the court here, I’m just fighting for every single ball because that’s what I think she would want me to do.

“We talked about her matches here. It’s been some while so I can’t really tell you what it was about. But we definitely did. I hope she would be proud.”

Barbora Krejcikova stuns Elena Rybakina in strange but absorbing Wimbledon semi-final

09:15 , Alex Pattle on Centre Court

For a while, this was the calm after the storm. After Jasmine Paolini and Donna Vekic ran themselves into the ground in Wimbledon’s longest-ever women’s semi-final, Elena Rybakina looked poised to navigate hers with only the occasional hint of resistance. While Paolini needed two hours and 51 minutes to fight back, reduce Vekic to tears, and position herself on the cusp of glory, Rybakina seemed likely to need about 60 minutes to extinguish Barbora Krejcikova’s dream. And after the Centre Court crowd gorged itself on the melodrama of the first semi-final, it appeared content with watching this encore politely but sleepily.

But those were assumptions, and as this match wore on, it became clear that assuming was a dangerous game.

It was an incredible day in the women’s semi-finals yesterday, as both matches went to three sets for the first time in 20 years. Jasmine Paolini will face Barbora Krejcikova in Saturday’s final, in a match that will produce a new Wimbledon champion and the eighth different winner in eight years.

When is Novak Djokovic playing Wimbledon semi-final against Lorenzo Musetti?

08:48 , Jamie Braidwood

Novak Djokovic takes on Lorenzo Musetti for a place in the Wimbledon final after receiving a walkover into the final four.

The seven-time Wimbledon champion was due to face Alex de Minaur in the quarter-finals but the Australian withdrew due to injury.

Djokovic hit out at fans “showing disrespect” following his win over Holger Rune on Monday so his return to Centre Court could be spicy.

Musetti, 22,  will be playing his first grand slam semi-final after beating Taylor Fritz in five sets in the quarter-finals on Wednesday.

The Italian has played Djokovic six times, winning just once and was beaten from two sets to one  in the French Open third round last month.

Djokovic is playing in a record-extending 49th grand slam final and the winner will take on either Carlos Alcaraz or Daniil Medvedev in Sunday’s final.

When is Carlos Alcaraz playing Wimbledon semi-final against Daniil Medvedev?

08:46 , Jamie Braidwood

Carlos Alcaraz faces a Wimbledon semi-final rematch with Daniil Medvedev as the reigning champion continues his title defence.

The Spaniard defeated Medvedev in straight sets in last year’s semi-finals before going on to beat Novak Djokovic in an epic men’s final.

It was a one-sided contest as Alcaraz ruthlessly exploited Medvedev’s deep return position, but the fifth seed was impressive in beating Jannik Sinner in the quarter-finals.

Alcaraz, meanwhile, fought from a set down to beat Tommy Paul in the quarter-finals and played some scintillating shots as he won his 12th Wimbledon match in a row.

“He was a little bit on fire. You could see it by the score,” Medvedev said about his opponent. “That’s where it’s tough to play against him because you know whatever shot you hit, he can hit a winner.”

It’s men’s semi-finals day at Wimbledon as Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic look to set up a rematch of last year’s final at the All England Club.

Alcaraz faces fifth seed Daniil Medvedev as the 21-year-old Spaniard continues his title defence. The reigning champion defeated Medvedev in straight-sets at this stage last year in a one-sided semi-final, but the Russian was in impressive form in stunning World No 1 Jannik Sinner in the previous round.

Djokovic received a walkover into the semi-finals after Alex de Minaur withdrew due to injury, with the seven-time champion taking on Lorenzo Musetti. Djokovic is through to his 13th Wimbledon semi-final and 49th grand slam final while Musetti will be taking part in his first. The 22-year-old Italian defeated Taylor Fritz in five sets in the quarter-finals.

Elsewhere, Britain’s Alfie Hewitt will aim to reach the men’s wheelchair singles final against third seed Gustavo Fernandez, with Hewitt then in action alongside Gordon Reid in the men’s wheelchair doubles semi-final against Dutch pair Tom Egberin and Maikel Scheffers.
