Wolfe Tones legend Brian Warfield writes emotional ‘goodbye song’ for final show
The Wolfe Tones legend Brian Warfield has written an emotional “goodbye song” for diehard fans at their final show.
The 78-year-old admitted he won’t be able to hold back the tears during his last concert at the 3Arena in October, saying it will be a “bittersweet” moment. Speaking exclusively to us, he told us: “We’re definitely going to do something special. I’ve written a goodbye song for everybody over the years.
“It’s a story. It’s goodbye to all my friends, every story has an end, it breaks my heart to say a last goodbye to you and everyone. But the story lives on in the music and in song, but it breaks my heart to say a last goodbye.

“It’s a bittersweet moment and it is going to be sad. I’m going to try and make it as happy as I can but I will have a tear in my eye. There is no doubt about it.”
The Come Out Ye Black and Tans hitmaker said fans who have bought tickets to their final batch of concerts this year are in for a treat.
He continued: “We go out on a high and we leave the people with a happy memory of all the group and the people that were in it. I think that is the best way to go.
“We are together for 60 years this year and any other type of Wolfe Tones just wouldn’t be right.
“I wouldn’t like to do that. I wouldn’t
like to end up like The Dubliners, having every Tom, Dick and Harry at the end of the trail.
“We really are going out on a high. Two 3Arenas are sold out, most of the shows are sold out around the country. We’re doing Finsbury Park July 5
“Cork is sold out. It is the best way to leave isn’t it, rather than scrambling around with a couple of different guys. It wouldn’t be my way of doing things.”
Warfield said the band won’t reverse their decision to not retire after seeing a surge in popularity.
He continued: “I wouldn’t like to be untruthful to the people.
“It’ll be our final shows that is what we announced and that is what it is.”
The Celtic Symphony star said it’s been “amazing” playing all the different shows over the last 60 years.
“We have wonderful moments across out 60 years. We’re very privileged we got to do something that we all loved and made a living from it. It was great. But we’re calling it a day.”
But Warfield previously told us that he wasn’t retiring after The Wolfe Tones come to an end, revealing he has written a musical.
Celtic Exodus will be Warfield’s stage debut and is due to play in theatres across the country.
He said: “It’ll probably be out in November. It’s very exciting for me.
“I’ll probably sing a couple of tunes before and introduce the musical.
“It’ll be about an hour and a half and I’ll probably sing a half hour beforehand and introduce it.
He said Celtic Exodus tells the story of the “great emigration of people to America during the Famine times”.
