Woman, 70s, dies in Co Waterford road collision

A woman in her 70s has died following a collision involving a car and a lorry near Dungarvan, Co Waterford this morning.

The incident occurred at around 9.20am on the N25 at Garranbane.

The woman was treated at the scene, but was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the lorry was taken to Waterford University Hospital with what are understood to non-life threatening injuries.

The road is closed for a technical examination and diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses, particularly any road users who were travelling in the area at the time of the collision and who may have camera footage (including dash-cam), to contact Dungarvan Garda Station on 058 48600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.

The woman’s death brings to 100 the number of people who have died on Irish roads so far this year, an increase of 13 on the same period last year.
