Woman among six injured after crash outside shopping centre

A woman was taken to hospital after a crash and five others were injured.

The crash happened just outside the Pyramids Shopping Centre at the junction of Salisbury Street and Borough Road in Birkenhead, just before 5.30pm on Tuesday, July 9. It prompted a large response from the emergency services, with police, fire crews and paramedics all in attendance.

In an update today, Merseyside Police confirmed a woman was taken to hospital after suffering serious injuries. A police spokesperson confirmed the injuries were not life threatening.

They added a further five people suffered “slight injuries” following the crash. Police closed off the eastbound carriageway of Borough Road from Whetston Lane to Chester Street and cordoned off the scene of the crash.

The scene was directly outside the Pyramids Shopping Centre, which closed its doors as usual just after the crash happened. Buses using the route were diverted.

When the ECHO arrived at the scene at around 7pm, a badly damaged people carrier and a van were still in the road. Neighbours were upset by what they saw.
