Woman dies after arriving at Dublin Airport on plane from Spain
A woman has died after arriving at Dublin Airport on a flight from Spain. The incident on Tuesday night saw emergency services and gardai called following reports of a medical emergency onboard a plane.
Despite attempts to save her, the woman aged in her 60s was pronounced dead a short time later. Her body was taken to the morgue in Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown.
It’s understood the flight arrived into Dublin from Spain and no foul play is suspected.
A Garda spokesman told Dublin Live: “Gardai and emergency services were alerted to a medical emergency onboard a flight which landed at Dublin Airport, on Tuesday night, 18th June 2024. A female in her 60s was pronounced deceased a short time after landing. Her body was removed to the morgue at Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown.”

In a separate flight tragedy, an eight-year-old girl died on a SkyWest Airlines flight to Chicago after she suddenly became ill and unresponsive – despite medics’ “aggressive resuscitative efforts” upon landing.
Sydney Weston from Missouri was flying with her family from Joplin when she suffered a medical emergency. The flight she was on was rerouted to land in Peoria, Illinois on Thursday, June 13.
According to the Independent, 71 minutes after take off the plane made an emergency landing at General Wayne A Downing Peoria International Airport at 7.02am on Thursday. The coroner’s office said upon “landing in Peoria, she was not breathing and had no pulse.” Despite being transferred to the OSF Healthcare Saint Francis Medical Center 11km away, the young girl was pronounced dead at 8.02am.
The Daily Mail reported that an initial autopsy into Sydney’s cause of death came back inconclusive. The Peoria County coroner’s office said last Friday several studies are pending to determine a cause of death. The coroners office have ruled out any foul play, abuse or neglect.
In a statement, the family said: “Our hearts are shattered by the devastating loss of our precious daughter. We request privacy and respect as we cope with this profound grief.”
